DIRECTIONS FOR GIVING AN


ALARM OF FIRE.


1. To give an alarm, go to the nearest box, break glass, turn key, open door, pull the hook to the bot- tom of the slot once and let go; leave door open.


2. Do not pull the hook if the fire bell or small bell in the box is strik- ing as that indicates that an alarm has already been given.


RATES OF FARE AUTHORIZED BY CITY ORDINANCES RELATIVE TO PUBLIC CARRIAGES, ETC.


Section 13 of Sec. 507 of 1900 re- vision. That the owner of driver of any omnibus, carriage, cab, herdic, or other vehicle licensed under this chapter, shall be entitled to demand and receive not to exceed twenty-five cents (25c) for each passenger con- veyed any distance not exceeding one mile.


For each passenger over one mile and under two miles fifty cents (50c). For each passenger with trunk, one mile and under two miles

Children under five years of age accompanying any person who has paid full fare shall not be charged fare, and children between the ages of five and ten years shall be charged half fare. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be subject to a fine of not less than five nor more than one hundred dollars.


PUBLIC SCHOOLS.


The Independent School District of Des Moines under the consolidation law embraces all of the territory and school houses within the corporate limits of the city. Seventeen dig- tricts enter into this consolidation. Twelve of these were partly in and partly out and those portions of the districts inside of the city are now a part of the consolidated district. The territory of the other five districts was wholly within the city so that three districts were taken in entire.

Seventh Ward- The seventh ward shall comprise all that portion of the city lying east of the east line of the sixth ward as above fixed.

VOTING PRECINCTS.


First Ward. First Precinct-The. first precinct shall embrace all of the territory lying south of the Raccoon River and west of the center line of Sections 21, 16 and 9, Township 78, Range 24.


Second Precinct-The second pre- cinct shall include all of the territory bonded on the east by Forty-second, on the south by Raccoon River, on the west by the corporation line, on the north by the center line of Sections 1 and 2, Township 78, Range 25.


Third Precinct-The third precinct shall comprise all the territory lying north of the Raccoon River, east of Forty-second and Forty-second pro- duced to river,, west of Twenty- eighth and Twenty-eighth produced to river, and south of the center line of Sections 5 and 6, Township 78, Range 24.


Fourth Precinct-The fourth pre- cinct shall include all the territory lying east of Twenty-eighth and de- . scribed as follows, to-wit: Beginning in the middle of the Raccoon river on, the west line of Section 8, Townf ship 78, Range 24, thence north along the west line of Sections 8 and 5, Township 78, Range 24, to the center line of Section 5, Township 78, Range 24, thence east along the center line, of said Section 5, Town- ship 78, Range 24 to the center line of Seventeenth thence south along the center line of Seventeenth to
