The total number of names in the present Des Moines City Directory is 51,846. In this number is included no firm name, church, school, in- stitution nor anything else which does not 'stand for the name of an in- dividual. Using the multiple of 21/2-to allow for the names of women and children not represented in its columns-we have 129,615 as the esti- mated population for the territory covered by the Directory canvass.
