United States Court of the South- ern District of lowa-The United States is divided into nine judicial circuits, in each of which a district court is held for each district within each circuit.


The state of Iowa is divided into two judicial districts. The courts for the southern district are held in dis- trict court rooms U. Department of Iowa-


The Historical, Memorial and Art building, Historical Department of Iowa in the E Grand av, between east 11th and 12th sts., publishes quarter- ly the Annals of Iowa, receives cur- rently 295 Iowa newspapers and 35 non-lowa newspapers. Has on file about 8,500 bound volumes of news- papers. Has a library of about 20,- 848 volumes on local history, Indian and civil war history, geneology, etc. Has a large collection of original manuscript materials collected from the early settlers of Iowa and . noted authors and celebrities of America and England. Is the custodian of the archives of the state. Has a collec- tion of 130 oil portraits of eminent Iowa citizens, and a large collection of photographs, and other portraits. Has a large museum illustrating the natural history of the state open to the public every day from 8:30 a. m. to 5 p. m., except Sundays and holi- days, when the hours are from 1 p. m. to 5 p. m.
