ORGANIZED IN 1 60 ..
G. H. BREWER, SECRETARY.
ASSETS NOW OVER $15,600,000.
HE 39th Annual Sthofsit of THE WASHINGTON is an exhibit of the COMPANY'S solid and chulpact strength epitomized. THE COMPANY'S Building at 1 1 Broadway in it architectural beauty, the substantial character of the structure, its perfect adaption to the COMPANY's busi- ness, and the light and attractive offices supplied to the public in the very heart of the City's mancia, center, furnishes undoubted evidence of the wisdor Ishown in the selection of the location. The fact that the entire buy dingtis well rented is enough to say of the nature of the
investment. THE sunis paid du Holidy holders in 1808 aggregate $1,622, 153.24, in which amount are fieluded de vidende and other items of "returned prem- iums." The assale of the first day of January And increased during the year in the sum of $555,926.82 to $15,082, 226.21, composed of Municipal and other Bords, First Mortgage Loans on New York City property, Real Estate and Loans to the holders of the Company's policies.
THE record of the year shows an increase of nearly $2,000,000 in amount of insurance written, and gains in assets, in income, in surplus and in volume of business.
THE liberal and just eatment of its members in the prompt payment of. claims, dividends and strender values, is a well established usuage of the Company of many years duration, dating back to the very com- mencement ofats business
THE unhesitating - adines of THE WASHINGTON to grant loans on its policies, has palved of calculable valde in preventing the loss of the insurance. "The knowledge of these essential truths, has convinced the public that good ins rance may be had, and where to get it.
In the last five years THE WASHINGTON paid a larger amount to policy- holders in return premiums (i. e., for dividends and surrendered policies) proporlohate to premiums received, than the average of all other life insurance companies in this country.

The force generated by the use of the Elect opoise is a thermal electrical current, which acts upon cach tissue-cell in the body through the serves which dilate the arteries, when the polarizer is placed in cold water.
The dilation of the arteries- bi the resulting stimulation of the tissue cells-induces more active nutritive processes, increase The heat of the body, promotes normal action of the digestive or- gans, healthy action of the Win, bowels and kidneys, and supplies much more oxygen by deep- ening. the respiratory act.
In supplying new force to the farve center" which regulate the nutrition of the body, by the Elec- tropoise, we render the help which is required inevery form of disease.
Balance the circulation throughout the body" and at the same time introduce more oxygen, and we. can to a large extent prevent disease, or abolish it if already established.

Grand Trunk New Single Arch Double Track Steel Bridge Over the Niagara River. The nelf brillge is a single steel arch of 550 feet in length, supplemented by a trussed span, at either end; of 15 feet in Ingthe This with the approaches, makes the total length of the bridge slightly over 1,100 feet., Thej railway trac'is aufmounting the bridge are 252 feetAbove the water! The bridge nas two decks or floors. On the upper floor there are two tracks for railway purposes exclusively, while the lower floor contains a wide central car riageway, di ube electric railway tracks, and on either side passageway for pedestrians.
As an enddate of the enormous strenght of this beautiful structure, the arch is designed to carry on each railway ·track a load of two locomotives with four pairs of drivers each and 40,000 pounds on each pair, followed by a train of 3,500 pounds per running foot, and is designed to carry in addition a live load of 3,000 pounds per running foot on the lower floor. "The general public will, however, probably be better able to arrive at'a correct understanding of the enormous sustaining power of the new bridge by the fact that it is calculated to sustain a weight of something Aver six timla Inte sustaining capacity of the historic Suspension Bridge, which it replaces.
