Eucalyptus.
The discovery of the valable medical qualities of the Eucalyptus was in a measure an accidental one. Mr. JJason Wilkins, the discoverer and proprietor of this valuable curative agent was temporarily residing in San Francisco. For years he had been a sufferer with a dyspeptic difficulty that had never yielded to medical treatment. While strolling along the wharves in San Francisco, he stopped to watch the unloading of an Australian vessel, and his attention was drawn to some peculiar blue-leaved trees, which formed part of the cargo. Ile picked off a few leaves and chewed them, felt a relief, and continued their use in this crude way until he was entirely relieved from his disease. Having por- enred a supply of the leaves, he began a series of experiments by giving them to his acquaintances for various diseases and finding alnost mirac- ulous results to follow. Hle then continued his experiments in the direc-, tion of extracting from the leaves and preparing in the most effective and convenient form possible the medicinal properties of this wonderful tree. lle found, while making his researches, that this leaf had been used to a limited extent in Europe as well as this country, and accounts of its wonderful powers to allay inflammation had appeared in all the leading medical journals of Europe and America, but it had never been prepared scientifically or in quantities for presentation to the public, one canse of which doubtless was the difficulty and expense of obtaining the leaves. Having, however, satisfied himself that here was one of nature's great restorative agents only waiting for suffering humanity to accept of it, Mr. Wilkins at once made a contract at a heavy expense for a large supply of the leaves properly bruised and pressed into bales and shipped from their native woods in Australia to his Laboratories in San Francisco and Clinton, Iowa, where the medical properties are extracted and prop- erly incorporated, elther in the Double Extract mn fluid form, or in the Troches, a pleasant vehiele, mild in action, in which it is prepared for ladies or children, and which are also invaluable to all in cases of hoarse- ness, coughs, and bronchial affections.
Of the enres already effected by Eucalyptus in the form presented by this manufacturer, we could write pages. Mr. Wilkins has a score of valuable testimonials from reputable citizens of Clinton and elsewhere, attesting the truth of all that is claimed for Eucalyptus as a medicine, while in no single case so far has it failed to effect a cure where properly used-which is alone a priceless endorsement of its curative properties.
We might write at interminable length of this new medicine and the, steps now being made to introduce it-but space forbids,

. Clinton Commercial College.
The institutions known as Commercial Colleges are of modern origin. They became an educational necessity from the fact that the world's commerce, and especially that of the United Stones, required a more thorough education for those young men who designed to be elerks, ae- countants or mereantile men.
The general colleges and sonfinaries of learning failed, in their more general course of study, to afford the requisite instruction. Hence arose, abont twenty years ago, the want of schools of a high grade devoted to the special purpose of training young men especially for mercantilo pursuits.
The college of Mr. Riley is of that class, and has been established in Clinton for six years. The rooms, situated in the Post Office Block, Fifth avenue, are large and commodious and well adapted for the imparting of instruction for the acquirement of a solid business education.
