BOISE. Pop 30,000. Ada coun- ty. The capital of Idaho the coun- ty seat and the commercial, financial, literary and political center of the state on the O S L and the Idaho Traction Co Rys. Surveys for the new Boise-Winnamucca R R are un- der way which when completed brings Southern Idaho 500 miles nearer San Francisco, 430 n w of Salt Lake City and 500 s e of Port- land Orc. Its property valuation for 1912 was $27,000,000. The to. tal tax rate for all purposes for 1912 was 16 mills on 40 per cent valua- tion for municipal purposes.


Its bank clearings average $1,000,- 000 a week and have increased an- nually at the rate of 25 per cent for. several years .


Its postal receipts increased 10 per cent during 1912.


The Owyhee Hotel completed at a cost of $300,000 is one of the finest in the Northwest. The Idan-ha Ho- tel which has done much to spread the city's reputation for hospitality has been recently remodeled at cost of $50,000 and under the man- jagement of Chas H Grout has achieved fame as on up-to-date hos- telry


There are ten public school build- ings in the city with 130 teachers, 4,750 pupils enrolled. The high school is a magnificent building and contains one of the best equipped gymnasiums in the northwest. The


annual expenditure for schools is about $180,000. The city has two private schools for girls under the management of the Episcopal and Catholic churches and each of these churches has a bishop at Boise. One


largest and best known Chautauquas in the west is held here annually.


All the leading religious denomi- nations are well represented in Boise and the surrounding country.


The Y M C A has an elegant building well fitted with gymnasium


and athletic accommodations. Y W C A has recently been . ized and is preparing to move . own quarters.
