PREFACE

We again make our how to the Club Ladies of Chicago and Illi- nois, and take great pleasure in presenting the fourth annual edi- tion of the Official Directory of the Women's Clubs of Chicago; hoping same may be received as cordially as have our previous editions.

Great pains have been taken to make this volume complete in every respect, and we take pride in saying that as a spec- imen of the printers and binders art it is not excelled in this particular line.

It is our intention in our next edition to insert engravings of the several club build- ings in which meetings are held, and we would respectfully ask that club officers who have plates of their buildings kindly furnish us with them for this purpose.

We thank the business and professional public of Chicago for their very liberal patronage and would ask Club ladies and others who use this volume to do business with the ladies and gentlemen whose advertisements ap- pear herein; promising that they will receive the very best attention and reasonable rates. It has been our aim to solicit advertisements from only strictly reliable and re- sponsible parties and such as we can recommend to Club ladies.

We also extend our hearty thanks to the many Club ladies for the readiness with which they have responded to our requests for information, photographs, etc.

Very respectfully,

Allen County Public Library 900 Webster Street PO Box 2270 Fort Wayne, IN 46801-2270

The Only Double Track To Missouri River

The Chicago and Northwestern Railway announces the completion of its new double track between Chicago and the Missouri River at Council Bluffs.

Four fast trains each way daily between Chicago and Omaha, three trains a day between Chicago and San Francisco, two per day between Chicago and Portland, two between Chicago and Denver, three between Chicago and Sioux City and one between Chicago and the Black Hills, provide for passen- ger traffic between the East and the West over this transcontinental highway.

An admirably complete train service is also maintained between Chicago and Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, Yankton, Pierre and Mitchell, S. D., Casper, Wyc., and Oakes, N. I)., and to and from points in Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Southern Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska, tribu- ary to the main transcontinental line.

These through trains are operated on fast and convenient schedules. They are drawn by powerful locomotives and carry an equipment of Sleeping Cars, Reclining Chair Cars, Observation, Dining, Parlor and Cafe Cars and Stand- ard Day Coaches of the most approved type.

The perfectly ballasted roadbed of heavy steel is maintained in the high- est state of efficiency, equipped with automatic block signals, interlocking switches at railway crossings, and all devices for the safety and comfort of passengers known to modern railway management.

The 9,024 miles of railway embraced in the North-Western system pene- trate to every point of Importance in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Northern Michigan and Southern Minnesota. The system also ex- tends to points in North and South Dakota and Wyoming, with connections to the Pacific Coast.

The Overland Limited, daily between Chicago and San Francisco, the Colorado Special between Chicago and Denver, and the North Western Limited, between Chicago, St. Paul and Minneapolis. are examples of the highest art in train construc- tion and design, possessing the most complete arrangements for the comfort of passengers, and operated on fast and convenient schedules.
