V., in which Regt. he served until Nov. 28, 1866, when he was honorably discharged; he was in many severe engagements,among them were the battles of Wilson Creek, Pittsburg Landing, Corinth, Hatchie, Siege of Vicksburg, Fort Beauregard, and Champion Hills; he married Wilhelm Breckler, in Warren, this Co. March 28, 1867; she was born in this Co. June 17, 1843 : they have three children living : Wil- ford D., born in this town June 16, 1869; Geo. N., in Glenelder, Mitchell Co., Kas., March 20, 1873; Elijah C., in this town,. April 17, 1877; lost one child, Laura E., born Jan. 17, 1871, died* March 25, 1871; Mrs.Townsend's father, Anthony G. Breck- ler, was born in France in Aug., 1794; he served under Napoleon 7 years and was in a number of bloody engagements, among them the battle of Waterloo; he afterward joined Selkirk in his Red River expedi-

Hanover; born in Venango Co., Penn., June 18, 1834; he came to this state and Carroll Co. with his father in 1837; they moved to Galena in 1839; they came to Derinda Tp. in 1842; he left home to do for himself at the age of fourteen; through his industry and economy he accumulated money and bought his present farm, with gold, from the govern- ment in 1855; he was married in 1856 to Margaret Wagman from Bucks Co., Penn .; they liad ten children, four are dead : Mary E., born Oct. 16, 1859; Harriet T., Jan. 14, 1861; Ida E., Aug. 12, 1862; Rebecca, Feb. 5, 1864; Lillie, April 8, 1869; Cora E., Sept. 22, 1875; his father died in 1840 in Carroll Co .; he has 160 acres land in Sec. 29; he enlisted in the 96th Regt. I. V. I., Co.A, in 1862 ; mustered out in 1863 on account of sickness; re- enlisted April, 1865; was mustered out Jan. 27, 1866; he has held the office of Assessor one year, Road Commissioner one year; Mr. G. has been very prominent in the interests of his district school and held the office of Director three years.

Elizabeth; he was born in Jack- son Co., Indiana, Dec. 2, 1815; he came to this state and New Boston, Mercer Co., in 1834; he moved to this Co. in 1835, and spent fourteen years in mining here and Wisconsin ; he settled on his present farm in 1849; he was married in 1848 to Miss Elizabeth Claypool from Ohio; she was born April 25, 1822; they have had six children; Helen R., born Feb. 12, 1850; James P., Feb. 1, 1852; Jesse R., Oct. 1, 1854; Louisa H., April 26, 1857; Evans B., Dec. 16, 1859; Cora A., Aug. 1, 1864; he has 760 acres land located in Secs. 3, 4 and 10; 400 acres of his land he purchased of government in 1844; he has held the office of Supervisor for the past nine years, School Director eight years, School Trus- tee eighteen years; Mr. Logan is quite extensively engaged in stock raising; his cattle and horses all look fine.

Derinda Centre; born in Penn. in 1831; came to this state and Galena May, 1836; settled in Derinda Tp. same year, and on his present farm in 1849; he was married, in 1857, to Miss Esther Weir from Penn .; they have had five children: Jane E., born April 23, 1858: Charles M., Feb. 15, 1863: Willmer W., Jan. 1870; Bennie R., May 17, 1873; Mary E., Jan. 31, 1868, died Oct. 8, 1868; Mr. McG. was elected constable when the Tp. was first organized in 1854, he held it four years ; Township Constable one year, Postmaster since Jan. 27, 1873; he has 100 acres land in Secs. 9 and 11.
