INTRODUCTORY
The 1909 edition of the Fort Wayne City and Allen County Directory is herewith submitted to its patrons by the publishers with the belief that it will fully answer every purpose for which a directory is intended.
The work contains a total of 34,170 names, exclusive of necessary duplications and names of corporations, and firin names, etc. According to the usual method of com- pnting population upon the basis of two inhabitants to each individual name in the City Directory, this would indicate a population of 68,340, an increase of 3,253 over last year.
During the past year Fort Wayne has presented the most marvelons record of growth and development, as is evideneed by the large and beautiful bank, hotel and office buildings which have been built or are in course of construction, and in no previous year has there been so many artistie and substantial homes erected.
The attention of the public in general has been attracted and a hearty interest awakened in all toward the beau- tifying and betterment of Fort Wayne.
This directory is placed in the libraries of the directory offices in all the principal cities of the country, where it serves as a lasting advertisement for no other publication can convey such an idea of the city. its growth, its people, with their trades and professions, its schools, churches, societies, banks, railroads and incorporated companies and all the various institutions and organizations.
