William Ribble, who is now a member of Delaware Lodge, was raised in Whitney Lodge November 26, 1857, and is the oldest living person who was made a Mason in Whitney Lodge. Mr. John B. Vanbuskirk made application for a dispensation empowering them to meet and work as a lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. A dispensation was issued by Edward O'Rouke, grand master, dated January 13, 1896. In pursuance of this dis- pensation Eaton Lodge U. D. was organized with the following officers :

INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS.
Muncie Lodge No. 74, I. O. O. F.
Oddfellowship was introduced into Delaware county in the organiza- tion of Muncie Lodge No. 74, which was instituted November 9, 1849. The first set of officers were: David T. Haines, N. G .; John C. Helm, V. G .; Thomas J. Matthews, secretary; John Brady, treasurer; Eli J. Jamison, warden; Theodore J. Riley, conductor; Martin Galliher, R. S. to N. G .; Edward G. Kcasby, R. S. S .; William Walling, L. S. S. The organization of this lodge took place in what was then known as Anthony's building, on the south side of Main street, one door east of the southwest corner of the square. Until May 28, 1852, the lodge met in a room in Galliher's building, on Main street between High and Walnut ; then for about a year met in Masonic hall. A third floor was built on the Brady building, on the north side of Main, between Walnut and Mulberry, expressly for the use of the Odd Fellows, and the lodge moved to these quarters in May, 1853.
In 1871 the sum of four thousand dollars was paid for a forty-foot lot on the northeast corner of Jackson and Walnut streets, and the taking of a stock subscription for the building of a hall was begun. June 8, 1872, the corner stone was laid, and the new hall was dedicated October 28, 1875. January 1, 1907, the membership of the lodge was 480. The present officers are: W. Claud Hirons, N. Muncie Encampment No. 30, I. O. O. F.
Muncie Encampment No. 30 was organized January 20, 1852, and on March 24, 1852, was instituted under a charter from the grand encampment. The first officers elected were Jolin C. Helm, C. P .; Jacob Colclazer, H. P .; Jolin II. Jamison, S. W .; Eli J. Jamison, J. W .; William G. Ethell, S .; Edward G. Keasby, treasurer. The formal title of the Encampment was adopted at the second stated meeting.

This lodge was organized and worked under dispensation for some weeks, until it was formally instituted under charter, November 21, 1878. Of the charter members only J. W. Houck is now living, his fellow members having been J. W. Jones, J. W. Abbott, Peter Quirk, Henry Braun, C. M. Kiger, J. W. Poland. For the first few years the membership was very small, but it now numbers 53 and is one of the strong lodges of the county. The officers are: J. E. Rinker, N. G .; D. O. Wert, V. G .; I. A. One of the first Rebekah lodges in the state, as its number indicates, the Naomi Daughters of Rebekah were organized January 18, 1869, with the following charter members: Joshua C. Bacon, Samantha A. IMPROVED ORDER OF RED MEN. De Ember Tribe No. 30, I. O. R. M.
The first wigwam of this thoroughly American order was instituted June 26, 1873, at the Willard block, Main and Walnut streets. Meetings were held in the Wysor Opera House hall for about six years, and in 1879 quarters were taken up on the east side of Walnut street, just north of Jackson. The charter members of this order in Muncie were: John R. Ervin, John Kirk, Harry E. Gatrell, William Glenn, J. E. Worcester, James N. Templer, Frank Ellis, Dr. Milton James, Dr. E. C. Kennedy, R. S. Gregory, George L. Elliott. The Tribe has paid out, for burial purposes $2,145, and for sick benefits $15,987.

This tribe was organized in the Turner block at Muncie, May 19, 1892. About 150 nanies are recognized in the charter membership, among them being: Gilbert Hughes, Jacob J. Cope, George Koerner, Thos. Troxell, John O. Lewellen, Ollie Baldwin, Geo. N. Mclaughlin, Commodore P. Antrim, Geo. W. Summers, Robt. W. Monroe, David A. Lambert, HI. C. Harrington, Samuel A. Kelly, Jerre Garrard, Joseph A. Brown (deceased), Jas. II. Summers, who is filling the office of chief of records for the thir- teenth year. John Dooley, now deceased, was the organizer of this tribe.

This tribe was organized by Perry A. Langdon, in the Turner block at Muncie, June 12, 1902. There were 167 charter members.
