Jo Monthly Meetings, their committees of the subject of Education, and Friends generally
Dear Friends we continue to feel very solicitous. for the right training and education of the youth of our Society, although surrounded by much that is calculated to discourage, so that at times it may ocem as if we could scarcely hold fast to and live out before the world, those precious principles and testimonies which have been bequeathed to les as a docity, we are nevertheless convinced that there is nothing contained in them more than is strictly enjoined upon us by the precepts and example of our Holy Redeemer as we come under his teaching and government, this being our hanest beleif it becomes us to be very earnest that they should be diligently tought to our children our obligation in this respect can scarcely by les than that laid when the chosen people of God in olden time when he said "And these words which I command thee this day shall be in thing heart and thou shalt teach them diligently unto the children and shall talk of them when there

by the way and when they liest down and when then risest up"
While we believe that the common ore public school of our land have been and are of great value yet we are convinced that they do not entirely meat our wants as a society, our children are, in tien, braucht in contact with much, that is at varieance with our principles,The selection of teachers being to but limited extent under our controle, the teaching they receive and the associations and various influences thrown around them. are often calculated to lead away from, rather them into there habits of self denial and can- sistant department which are essential to a permanent growth and establishment in the Christian Religion, Shall we then Dear Friends stand boldly forward before the world and labor for the defence and perfectication of those doctrines and testimonies which wie de surely beleive in We are convinced that if this is the case, our children must be brought under influences more favorable then there generally surrounding then in the public schools, and while are have no definite plan for the accomplishment of this object, we would encourage friends, to allow no reasonable pecuniary sacrifice
