An incorporated village of considerable business enterprise, the county seat of Dekalb county, located at crossing of B. & O., Eel River div. of the W., St. L. & P., and Ft. W. & J. Rys., 23 miles north of Ft. Wayne. Among the manufacturing and commercial industries are 2 flour mills, 3 planing mills, a handle factory, I foundry, 2 saw-mills, 1 woolen mill, 2 stave and heading factories, and a manufactory of church furniture. The Dekalb County Republican, and Auburn Courier, are the 2 weekly newspapers issued. The county seat of Whitley county, located on Blue river at the crossing of the Eel river division of the W., St. L. & P. and P., Ft. W. & C. Rys, 18 miles northwest of Ft. Wayne. The county buildings are substantially built, the streets of the village wide, tree-shaded and gas lighted, and lined with many fine residences and business blocks. Among the more important industries, etc., are 2 banks, 3 ably conducted weekly newspapers, 10 churches, 1 graded and 1 high school. Here also are found 1 furniture factory, 1 brewery, 2 broom factories, 1 hub factory, 2 woolen mills, a tannery, and 1 flour mill. The Adams and Pacific express companies, and the W. U.
