DECATUR.
This incorporated town is on St. Mary's river, at the cross- ing of the T. C. & St. L., and G. R. & I. R. R's. It is the county seat of Adams county, and is 21 miles south of Fort Wayne. The county buildings, business blocks and residences are mostly substantial, and some elegant structures. The churches and schools of Decatur are in a prosperous condition, as are most of the mercantile and manufacturing industries of the place. Among the latter are a woolen mill, 3 saw-mills, 2 stirrup factories, 3 flour mills, 3 stave factories, and 2 plan- ing mills. In the eastern part of Noble county, 11 miles from Albion, the county, seat, where the Air Line division of the L. S. & M. S. Ry crosses the G. R. & I. R. R., is located this thriving and pushing little city of 3,000 inhabitants. Fort Wayne lies 26 miles to the south and Toledo 133 east. In the manu- facturing line here are an eave trough factory, 1 grain cradle factory, 2 cooper shops, 1 wind mill factory, a planing mill, 2 handle factories, 2 saw-mills, 1 tannery, 2 flour mills, a clothes- rack factory, 1 brick yard and 1 tile factory. The religious element is represented by 8 churches, of as many denomina- tions, and the educational advantages are good graded and high schools.
