HUNTINGTON.


The judicial seat of Huntington county, is an important commercial and manufacturing city of 9,000 inhabitants, located on the Wabash river, the C. & E. Ry., and Wabash R. R., 118 miles from Toledo, O., 105 from Indianapolis, and 318 from St. Louis, Mo. The chief industries in manufacture now .comprise flour mills, brewery, stave works, saw mills, found- ries, planing mills, cooper shop, bentwood. works, handle fac- tory, furniture factories, heading factory, and the largest lime kilns in the State. Huntington was settled in 1833 by Gen. John Tipton, and was formerly known as Flint Springs. It is supplied with gas and electric light, a well equipped fire department, fine opera house, excellent county buildings, and 3 banks. The press of Huntington is above the average, in- cluding the following newspapers, the Herald and the Democrat, both issued daily and weekly, and the Farmers' Guide, a semi-monthly publication.
