Home of an opulent bloat under bonds.
Mud cottage of a bloat full of bonded whiskey.
The Author's luxurious abode near Sleigho. A three-story (in length) Grecian cottage, with native trees (gourd and pumpkin) in the rear. Designed by A. Kreditur, who still has designs on the same. Built after (a good while) the style of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, and slightly after Barnum's Hippodrome in New York City. A number of beautiful fountains in the neighborhood give the place a niagara sort of appearance, and makes life a real pleasure. Rustic sofas and a fine verandah belonging to a neighbor's house, are conveniently arranged for the benefit of creditors arriving on early trains, who do not wish to disturb the repose of the author.

SENTIMENTS CENTENNIAL.
BY ENOS B. REED.
One hundred years ago, Columbia then
Could boast of women fair and stalwart men- Women whose thoughts were not alone on dress, And men whose words were words of truthfulness.
There were few foibles in those good old days, But sound sense ruled in customs and in ways. Men were not monkeys, women had some brains, And virtue was rewarded for its pains.
Vice was not honored in those days of old- Men thought of something else than shining gold, While greenbacks, now the question of the day, Were all unknown, in a financial way.
Women there were, one hundred years ago, Who lived for something else than fleeting show, And men whose thoughts on office did not always run, On getting, first, and then, on keeping one.
Things then were what they seemed, or mostly so- When souls were tried, a hundred years ago -- And holy men there were who walked with God, Nor sinful paths with sinful worldlings trod !
The Word was preached-'twas Jesus crucified- The house of God was not a house of pride- The world was all forgot within its walls, And sinners hearkened to the heavenly calls.
Few traitors then within the halls of State, And fewer thieves-to steal did not make great. Who loved his country was then honored most- The patriot-not the thief-was then a host.
Alas ! how times have changed ! Columbia now Falls down to worship and to humbly bow To gold and greenbacks, on pride's altars placed, While honest men look on and weep-disgraced I
O, for a change ! Some honest hand to guide The ship of State. Be this our chiefest pride- That to our children we'll bequeath the trust As we received it from the good and just.
And when a hundred years again have fled, And those now living slumber with the dead, May freedom's banner float afar and free, Honored alike on land and on the sea !
