When Amy was 17, she came back to Indiana from Mis- Iri, and lived with John Routh, her first cousin, and wife Sal- ho Routh. She and Jonas moved to near Lebanon.
Milton S. Love, born Ky., came to near New Ross 1876.

In 1916, Johnny "Appleseed" Chapman visited in New Ross. In 1899 Hattie McVey had a dressmaking shop in New Ross.
Charles Imel married Rosa LaPlante, children were Oscar (Tode), Viola Porter, Jennie Lowell, Mrs. James Wren, Eva, and William H. Imel. Oscar (Tode) Imel Midland agent until 1916.
William H. Beck and wife Evaline (or Effie) owned land west of New Ross. Their son, Jackson was born 1830, married Mary Weaver; William Jr. ; Washington; Columbus; and Daniel Beck. The Wesley Beck, first teacher at Greenwood 1859, may be their son.
Vora Haffner, son of Fred and Effie Causey Haffner, has lived here with his son Donald Haffner, two miles west of New Ross, since the death of his wife Lola Livengood Haffner several years ago. For the past few years Mr. Haffner has had a beautiful gar- den of varied kind and color of flowers, and it is admired by many people. Donald Haffner and wife Crystal had the follow- ing children, Phillip, Richard, Christine, Karen, Sharon, and Ronnie Haffner. Vora Haffner's other son, Frederick, married Pearl Adeline Shoaf Estelle, daughter of Claud. and Bertha Good- night Shoaf, 2 1/2 miles west of New Ross.
Ray Wilson, brother to Walter Wilson, married Edith Moody, and their children were Cecil, Harold, Ivan and Gene Wilson. Their sister Faye Wilson married Glen Rhoades.
Mrs. Nellie Arnold and her children, Earl, Harold, Opal and Merle lived in New Ross. Merle Arnold and wife Ethel live in New Ross, have daughter Peggy. He works at New Ross Grain Co. and Ethel is a paper hanger, painter and decorator.
Arthur and Etta Z. Bruce and daughter Linda lived in New Ross. Etta Bruce has a beauty shop. Also Mrs. Joan Gray has a beauty shop.
Ralph Waltz Sr. and wife Jeanette, and their son Ralph Jr. and wife Martha and children, Charles and Shirley live in New Ross. Their daughter Judy married Robert Hays, and they have a daughter Laura, live about five miles west of New Ross.
Some other residents are Mrs. Lulu Kinnett and daughters Bet- ty, Dorothy, and Shirley J. Kinnett, and a grandson, Gerald Kinnett; Howard and Julia Powers, Carl and Frances Shelley, he's with Central Dairy Association and she owns and operates Kozy Korner restaurant; and Maynard Siddons and wife Martha and children Jerry and Sharon Siddons.
Simon Emmert, son of Peter Emmert, northeast of New Ross, was born 3-4-1804, died Sept. 1886, came from Tennessee October 1822, to Boone County, near to New Ross. He married 4-1-1825 Mary Canada, born 9-24-1808 South Carolina, died 7-18-1880. Both buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, NE of New Ross. Had nine children who were Canders m. Hugh Hudson, David J. m. Eliza Cardinyl (?); June m. Jeremiah Best; William W. m. Dulcena Younger; Francenia m. John McIntire; Stephen m. Mar- garet Airhart; Clarissa m. John H. Cline; Mary A. m. John Air- hart; and Martha A. m. Enoch Whitely.
William Nicely, born Tenn., 1808, m. 1. Catherine Chris- tian, born 1808, died 1862, buried Mt. Zion; he m. 2 Jane Far- low, she died 1862 and he m. 3 Susannah C. Duncan 8-16-1863. She was born 1830. Children of wife 1. were John M., George W., Martha J., Mary J., William F., Albert and Sarah C.

Lewis L. Canada m. Sarah Ring 1817 and David Canada m. Martha (Patsy) Ring 1815, both marriages in Wayne County, Ind. They lived northeast of New Ross, near Mt. Zion Church.
John H. Dodd married Anna Stultz, and one of their daughters was Emma Dodd, who married Marion Routh, and they had a daughter, Anna Routh, who married Horace Routh, and a son Rus- sell Routh. (Marion m. 2 Eva Elliot and they had a daughter, Helen Routh Featherstone).
Joseph Randel, born 1827, Ky., married Mary Jane Fisher, born 1831, on 6-3-1850. He was son of Asa and Margaret Sul- ton (or Sutton) Randel, and a brother to Aunt Betsy Randel Routh, wife of Jesse Routh. Joseph died 8-26-1850 and Mary Jane died 7-29-1851. Their daughter Joan was born 4-2-1851, eight months after her father's death. So after her mother's death, when she was three months old, Joan was taken by her aunt, Betsy Routh, and raised by her and her husband, Jesse Routh. Jesse Routh and my great-grandfather, and Joan's unele, Wil- liam Randel were her guardians. Joan married Jesse H. Routh, son of Andrew Jackson Routh and Sarah Agee Routh. Jesse H. was born 1846. They had two sons, Elmer and Perry Routh. (See Routh family. ) After Jesse H. Routh died, Joan married George Mears.
They say a child cannot be marked before birth, but my mo- ther-in-law, Rose Walters, was pregnant, and slie went to lie- good friend and neighbor's house, Gertrude Jessee Routh 's, and Raymond Routh was eating a chicken leg. She said it look- ed so good and she wanted it so badly, but she didn't say any- thing. But she was very careful not to put her hands tolier face, but kept them down on her legs, and held them there. When her baby was born, on his leg was a big red mark, in the shape of a ehicken leg ! !
The Inlow family has been scattered throughout this record, but here in one place is the children of Abraham and Susan Sparks Inlow. Susan married James H. Kelley, had Oscar E., William J., Mollie S., Addie M. and Susan Kelley; William J. married Emmerine Sparks, daughter of William and Catherine Sparks, had son Eddie. William came to New Ross 1833, and many New Ross additions were his. John Inlow and wife Rebecca had Susie who married Wilse Jessee, had three children. Ger- trude married Elmer Routh; Harry and Fred Jessee, who married Mayme Walters. Susie m. 2. William or Wilson Tipton, had Maud Tipton, who married George Feathers. Another daughter of John Inlow, Louise Alice Inlow, married James Routh (see Routh family. ) Issac Inlow; Elliot Inlow m. 1 Elizabetli Copner, m. 2 Hattie Catherine Fishback, daughter of Charles and Mary Ann Stokes Fishbaek, had Ivy Inlow; Mary Inlow married Wil- liam MeVey; Abraham Jr., m Catherine Routh; their families are in other parts of this record.
There have been six generations of Gollidaysin New Ross; 1st, Adam, 2nd Isaae, 3rd Fred, 4th Bud, 5th Richard and 6th Rich- ard's children. There have been seven generations of Routh's here; 1st Jesse, 2nd Jesse Jr. , 3rd James, 4th Horace, 5th Robert, 6th James, 7th Roger; and another Routh line also had seven generations here. Jesse 1st, Andrew J. 2nd, Jesse H. 3rd, Elmer 4th, Raymond 5th, Marilyn 6th, and her children Ricky, Denise, and Phillip Dossett, 7th generation. (Marilyn had married a Dos- sett, so name didn't remain Routh in these generations. ) Six generations of my family, including me, but also not same name of family, Noah C. Linn 1st, James W. Linn 2nd, Dora Linn Randel 3rd, Crystal Pauline Randel Walters 4th, Robert L. Wal- ters 5th and his children Jeffrey, Larry, Connie, Pamela and Mike, 6th. Another family was Stillwell Harris I, 1st, Stillwell Harris II, 2nd, Wallace Harris 3rd, Sherman Harris 4th, Jerry, 5th and his children Jon and Joni, 6th. Only five generations of Walters' here, William 1st, Frank 2nd, Harold 3rd, Robert 4th, and his children (above) 5th. In Crawfordsville Journal-Review, was an article on Raymond Routh, barber in New Ross many years; has liad his own shop since 1926, has cut the hair of the five generations of the Gol- liday family, all but Adam, the 1st generation.
William P. and Sarah Boyd Feathers had daughter Ella, who married William Whitecotton. Newspaper said that Ella gradu- ated from New Ross "Academy" in 1888.
John Powell, son of Thomas and Mary Caldwell Powell, who came from Bath Co. Ky. to Seott township, Montgomery Co., Indiana, then to New Ross in 1840. One son was Thomas Powell born 1834, married Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Henry Miller in 1867; daughter Ara Ann married William Burke Evans; otlic. children were Jominerva, Matilda J., George W., Mary E., Eliza L. and John E. Powell.
Nan Rains, wife of Jesse Rains, was born 1855, and she mar- ried 1. B. B. Stewart 1875; lie died and slie married Jesse Rains 10-10-1883. She died 9-22-1896 and is buried in Jessee Cem- etery in New Ross.
A little more data; In July 1897, post office was moved to S. Main St .; in 1909 Alva C. Walters was elected 3rd term as Road Supervisor; (lie was road supervisor many years). Also my grandfather James W. Linn was Road Supervisor, 100; C. W. Ross had a store in New Ross, managed by George Fox; In 1874 there were 168 acres in New Ross, and in 1878 there were 252 acres; Aaron Archier, carpenter in New Ross, died 7-28-1886. My grandfather was road supervisor for several terms and at one election, his first cousin was his opponent, and iny grandfather got 56 votes, and his cousin only 13, and lie was so mad hie didn't even speak to my grandfather!
Matthew Sharp married Martha Clark, daughter of David Clark. Matthew died 7-30-1893, age 74. Patrick and Mary Law- ler had a son, Thomas Lawler, born New Ross, died liere 10-13- 1893. Nathan and L. Hannah Proctor had son James, who died in New Ross 1879.
George Duke died in New Ross 5-7-1896, and Charlie Duke dicd 1895, son of George M. and ? Huffman Duke.
Issac Vannice, born 1839, died 1910, married Sarah E. Da- vis, lived in New Ross, and had following children: William H., Oliver Vannice marricd Myrtic Randel, daughter of Andrew V. and Emmaline Linn Randel, had two daughters, Lily and Lola , both died; Etta Vannice; Laura Vannice, Hattie May Vannice, Gill Vannice; Charles Vannice; and Maud Vannice.
Acy Hobson married Elizabeth Sheckett, and their son Thom- as E. Hobson, born 1859, died 1-23-1901, married Nellie Al- iee Agee, and she died 1-24-1901.
Naney Webb, daughter of Ezeliel and Maris Lewis Davidson, died 8-24-1920, age 73.
Caroline Canada, wife of Lewis Canada, daughter of James Dale, died 4-29-1916, age 79. Her children were Ella Emmert, Alice Emmert, Joseph David Canada, Henry Canada and John Canada.
Many of the early New Ross people went to Iowa, Kansas, Montana, ete., some remained in these places; some returned here.
In October 1892, John J. Linehan, who had been held in jail here (had stolen William Evans'horse and buggy, see story earl- ier), was released when his wife and baby and other interested people came here in his behalf.
Angus Davis lived south of New Ross. His wife died 1-31-1896 and he died 1899. His son Joshua Davis married Hattie Stipes, 1896.
Oscar Imel lost a leg October 1897, a brakeman on Midland train was careless. Agent at Midland depot until 1916.
Jesse Routh I died 6-27-1896, buried in Stoner cemetery, near farm where he had first settled.

John and Martha Age e had a daughter Nettie Agee Hobson, who lived in New Ross, but two daughters, Dora Agee married Zeb Auman and her sister married Dempsey Auman, and they lived in Whitesville, six miles west of New Ross.
The Young's built a barn on the Arch Needham farm Novem- ber 1894, north of New Ross, (formerly Isaac Sperry farm); Mrs. Matilda Raines Voncannon died 1899, age 66. Mrs. David Ca- nada died two miles east of New Ross, May 1892. In 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Gorsuch from Ohio lived on Isaac Sperry farm; children were Ernest, Frank and Mrs. Thomas McCormick. Mary Logan Moss joined Christian Church 1898, age 16, married M. J. Ma Trau, she died Niles, Mich. 1909, left an infant son and husband; was buried at New Ross Cemetery. Carl Loop, born and raised near New Ross in September 1909, was appointed by At- torney General of Federal government to go to England. Oliver Agee, died 1916, wife was Eliza Riddlebarger, children were Fern, Jessie, Oran, and Gladys Agee. James Agee married Mary Riddlebarger.
In April 1881, highest taxes were paid (over $100) by W. B. Evans, J. I. and Thomas E. Harris; T. J. McIntire, George W. Powell, C. and W. Walkup, in New Ross area. Under $100, the highest were James B. Jessee, Isaac N. Miller, Elijah Mount, J. Routh, John Stipe and Jeremiah Redenbaugh, from New Ross area.
January 18, 1892, John Golliday, son of Adam, brother of Isaac, was almost murdered on way from Kansas to New Ross. The Advance Hustler, later Friday Caller, was sent to New Ross area 1909.
Margaret C. Corn Linn, my great grandmother, joined New Ross Methodist Church in 1858. Mrs. Bruce Whiteman died east of New Ross, August 1909, daughter of Samuel Creed Thomp- son. Lyle Thompson, son of Dayton Thompson, married Geneva McConaly. One of William McVey's children was Bertha Craw- ley.
1955; Ernest Lee Terry, 1887 (lives in Indianapolis); Josephus Lloyd Terry, 1888-1965; Frank Lacey Terry, 1891-1939, mar- Charles Imel bought Bartlettt Grocery in New Ross. He also ried Rachel Pickle (they lived on this farm last of family to live owned and operated a restaurant, too. Hint Gott had a son, Fred there. ) After he died, house burned and Rachel left there in
Gott, who was a teacher.

William and Thursa Ann Whorley had four children, Thomas Lee, born Roanoke Co., Va., 1865 married Sarah Denoon, had son Glen Whorley; Fletcher Whorley married Nannie Ashwell, daughter of William B. and Elvira Hackworth Ashwell, my great-great uncle, who lived two miles northeast of New Ross 1870-1880, they had come from Bedford County, Va. Rhoda Whorley married Franklin Walkup; and Virginia Whorley Neigh- bors (she was in Ohio. )
Thomas J. Webb married Mary S. Stutesman, daughter of John and Elizabeth Turner Stutesman, had sons Howard and Jesse Webb. Thomas Webb's brothers and sisters were Mrs. L. W. Tip- ton, Mrs. Belle Punnell, Mrs. Louise Turner, James Webb and C. L. Webb.
George G. Myers, father of Susan Myers Morrison died 6-15- 1897, age 66.
Mr. and Mrs. David Duncan (she died 4-24-1910, age 56) had Alice Grandstaff, David Jr., George, went to Oklahoma; Mollie; and Ellen married Linden Beck. They lived northeast of New Ross.
Isaac Shields lived in New Ross, had son Bert, born here 1889, had other sons Vernon and Ernest. Isaac went to Crawfordsville in 1890. Vernon Shields was county sheriff at one time here in Montgomery County.
William Spohr married Sallie Conner, they had a daughter, Dora Ellen Spohr, died 7-12-1893, age 20 months.
Henry Martin Miller, died 10-6-1897, age 60, son of Wil- liam Miller. Martha Agee died 2-18-1897, age 77, daughter of John and Desdemonia Brown Kelly.
Lucy Sparks died 9-30-1889, age 40, a widow, daughter of Hugh and ? Gillespie McCracken.
John Payton Vancleave, born 9-26-1820, Ky. , died 2-5-1899, son of Benjamin and Matilda Taylor Vancleave, married Mar- gery Jane McMullen, born 12-11-1826, Ky., died 4-7-1905, lived 2 1/2 miles southwest of New Ross. Their children were James W., born 1845, died 1925 (wrote a Vancleave, Taylor, McMullen family history 1899) lived in a log cabin on the wood- ed farm. (no woods there now); Martha; Denny; Benjamin; Jo- seph A. W. Vancleave; Thomas Vancleave; Lindsay Vancleave; Mabel Vancleave; twins, Eva and John Wesley Vancleave; and and Sarah married Josephus Terry, and they also lived here on same farm, and their children were Bryon Oscar Terry, 1886-
1940's; Glen Terry, 1892, lives Minn. ; Lottie V., born 1894,
attended Greenwood School and New Ross high school. Others in her family attended Greenwood high school, but some graduated from Ladoga High School, Moss L. Terry, 1896, lives Minn., Swan Moody Terry, 1900-1919; Calvin Terry, 1903-1966; Sam - born Ky. , died 11-26-1893, age 75, son of John Wrenn; Harold uel Raymond Terry, 1905; Benjamin Terry, 1910-1911. Many Shepherd died 8-6-1894, one month old, son of J. W. and? Sli- of this Vancleave family are buried in Harshbarger Cemetery, with names inscribed on both sides of tombstone. Sarah Van- cleave Terry also attended Greenwood School, so I presume
James and Sarah Cutches Alkire from Columbus, Ohio came to New Ross. Their daughter Melissa J. Alkire married Captain S. M. Best on 2-8-1866. Children were Ida May, Elnora, James, Alice, and Edgar Best. Capt. Best moved near to Jamestown, 1884. He organized the G A R in New Ross and was a charter member.
J. K. Henry, son of M. M. and Nancy Lafollette Henry, mar- ried Jeanette Teague and had the following children, Armine, died 1892, age 23, Mary L., Charles A., Myrtle M., Floyd T., and Otto K. Henry. Mary L., called Mollie, was born 11-8-1870 and she married Charles E. Jones, son of John E. and Julia Sloan Jones. Their family given elsewhere in this record.

James M. Shields married Mary Buechler, had son Albert, liv- ed near New Ross in Boone County. Ethel Byroad married Wil- liam Montgomery. Earl B. Graves and wife Rosa Mitchell Graves Miller, James Nelson, Ira Mclaughlin, Nathan and Vora Mc- had a daughter Vada Graves. Emery Graves married Nellie Jones, had children, Edith, Isaac, Emmett, William M., Mary, and Earl. Lived in Jackson Twp., Boone County, near New Ross. Samuel Frazier married Victoria Proffitt, sister of Henry Prof- fitt, had son Joseph Frazier. Grant Davis married Maud A. Air- hart, had Fred, Marie, June, Mabel and Ruth, lived north of New Ross.
Governor James Mount of Indiana was born and raised north of New Ross in Franklin Twp. so didn't quite belong to the New Ross Community.
Emmons Clark married Ruth Bartholomew, and their child- ren were Marion and Arthur Clark.
John Harvey Airhartmarried Pearl Poland, daughter was Mary E. Airhart. Charles Bruce married Ella Swisher. William W. and Hallie Dickson Bush had son Simon Bush whomarried Mabel Sut- ton, had children Geraldine and Joseph Bush, all lived near New Ross.
When Isaac Wilson Jessee died, 8-23-1883, his parents were given as James B. and Nancy Burton Jessee, so the name Burton is confusing for James B's wife was Nancy Candler, daughter of John Candler, in Beckwiths history of Montgomery, and ones in family I've contacted do not know about the correct data on this.
