A Junior Every Member Canvass was conducted among the young people of high school age and the boys and girls of the church and about 100 pledges were secured. We believe that children and youth should be trained to give to the church.

Budget June 1, 1930, to May 31, 1931

To Trustees:

For interest and obligation on Building Debt

$ 9,949.72

Insurance on church for three years 1,350.00

Incidentals and repairs

400.28

TOTAL $11,700.00

To Local Treasurer:

Salaries-Pastor, Assistant and Janitor $ 4,160.00

Music

250.00

Publicity

140.00

Heat, light, gas and incidentals 800.00

TOTAL $ 5,350.00

To Benevolence Treasurer:

Conference Quota

$ 1,200.00

Church Federation

50.00

Indiana Central College 400.00

Bonebrake Seminary

200.00

$ 1,850.00

TOTAL GRAND TOTAL $18,900.00

To raise the above budget, members of the church are asked to subscribe as much as they can; however, the church asks no more of any individual than he should contribute to the church as a Christian. The one budget system is used and all pledgers are urged to pay on their pledges weekly. The weekly pledges to the budget are supplemented by four special cash and catch- up days during the year, as follows:

June 29, 1930-Third Anniversary Day-Goal $3,333.33

September 21, 1930-"Joash's Chest" Day.

December 23, 1930-"Give God A Gift" Day.

Easter, 1931-"Love Offering to Christ" Day.

We urge every member of our church that has any income to pledge and pay. It is more for their own good and for their standing with God than it is for the good of the church, but members must meet their obligations to the church if they would have the church meet its obligations to the world.

"Christian Giving is an essential part of Christian Living."

TITHER'S LEAGUE

The Brookside United Brethren Church has had a Tither's; League since January 21, 1918. Mr. Hill had called a meeting at his home, then at 1027 Kealing" Avenue, and as a result of this. meeting, an organization was perfected with ten members en- rolled. At the present time there are at least 112 tithers in the church membership. Mr. Clem C. Voorhis is at present the: Chairman of Stewardship and President of the league.

The League meets quarterly on the fifth Tuesdays. Meetings. will be held July 29th, September 30th, December 30th and March 31st, 1931, and anyone is welcome to attend. One of the: questions asked of applicants for church membership is: "Will. you study to know your duty as a Christian Steward, and will you contribute to the support of the local Church and benevolent. interests of the church as God prospers you?" The two great essentials in Church endeavor are Evangelism and Stewardship. In the League, Stewardship is studied and discussed.

BASIS FOR TITHING

The "tithe" principle of the Old Testament becomes the "life" principle of the New Testament. The tithe in the Old Testament acknowledges God's ownership and sovereignty. In these days of Grace, with the Crucifixion and Resurrection back. of us, we should do more-we should be stewards of all that we are and have. Jesus said: "This ought ye to have done, and not to have left the other undone." We cannot give direct to God, but we can give to the cause for which Christ died. One tenth is small when we realize that God furnishes both the capital and the increase.

"The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein." Psalms 24:1.

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to' receive it." Malachi 3:10.

"Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase." Proverbs 3:9.

"He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work." II Corinthians 9:6-8.

"It is not what he has or even what he does which expresses the worth of a man, but what he is."

Indiana Central College

Indiana Central College is a high type Christian College owned and operated by the United Brethren Church. Its church constituency includes a hundred thousand United Brethren in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Therefore, the people of Indianapolis are especially favored in having the college located here in this city.

Indiana Central has been having a wonderful growth in students, buildings, campus, student activities, and recog- nition on part of the public.

It gives the regular four-year college courses leading to the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Music Degrees. It prepares students for high school and grade school teaching and issues certificates for life license.

The student organizations and student activities are of the best type and most helpful.

The teachers have high scholastic training and take real interest in the students.

The expenses are very moderate. Expense for tuition and fees amount to $168.00 for a year.

A rapidly increasing student body gives evidence of the real merits of Indiana Central.

We appreciate the cooperation of the people of Brookside and welcome her young people.

THE CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENTS

The departments of the Children's Division are doing fine work and great interest is being shown by the children. The Brookside United Brethren Church believes that the child should have the central place in the program. We would rather con- serve childhood than reform adulthood. We do not want the scars that follow the "wild oats" days.

Our workers with the children ask for the cooperation of all the parents. We would be glad to have the children stay for the church worship service and we would appreciate having all the parents present. The Word tells us to "train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6). Let us work together in making boys and girls know that the most important thing in life is to "love God and keep his commandments."

Special plans have been made for the Children's Division for the summer-Daily Vacation Bible School from June 23- July 11, picnics, parties, class meetings and a great time with Jesus in the lesson periods on Sunday.

Mr. Clem C. Voorhis was chosen teacher by the class shortly after its organization and has been in charge of the Devotional services since that time. The class is chartered as an organized adult Bible class. A large percent of the class are members of the church.

The regular monthly social is held the last Monday in each month. Other social activities are conducted by the class such as parties and picnics where good times are enjoyed and friend- ships strengthened. The men of the class organized a basket ball team and made an excellent showing in the Church B. B. League the past season. Carrying Out Your Contract with God

When you make a contract with anyone it must be based upon a valuable consideration.

There was a woman of Israel named Hannah and she made a solemn contract with God.

When her son, Samuel, was born he was promptly placed in the church for training.

As a result of that schooling he came to manhood clean minded and clear brained. He was a statesman who shaped and guided the national life of the Hebrews.

The fierce light of publicity beat upon him as it does all who are invested with authority. He never failed in his leadership.

Many a parent has lived to rejoice that their faithful living has influenced sons and daughters to be good men and true in all the hazards of the rough road of life.

Samuel-the church-trained boy of Israel-began well, con- tinued well, ended well.

"Sinners will be saved when Christians act as if they had been saved."
