PREFACE.
The 1922 alumni directory has been prepared by the alumni office. It is the first directory since 1913. During the intervening period the number of living graduates of the University has increased from 4,790 to 7,381. The number of graduates who have died has increased from 244 to 479.
The present directory is more complete than any previous book, in that it contains a geo- graphical index of graduates in addition to the customary class and alphabetical indexes.
It is the hope of the alumni office that this directory will be supplemented in the coming year with the first directory of former students who are not graduates.
The information as to occupation and addresses of each graduate is given under the class . division. In the case of those who have received more than one degree from the University, the occupation and address are given where the record of the first degree appears in the catalogue. (N. V. indicates that the information as to address is not verified.)
In the alphabetical index the letters and figures after each name have the following sig- nificance :
Figures indicate the year in which the person graduated, and the letter shows in what school of that year his name will be found in the class list.
The significance of the letters is as follows: c or no letter before the year means that the person is a graduate of the College; g, Graduate School; e, School of Engineering; l, Law; p, Pharmacy; fa, Fine Arts; m, Medicine; n, Normal Department; ed, Education.
Married women are indexed both by their maiden names and by their names after mar- riage; but in the class catalogue such persons are placed in the list according to their names after marriage.
