BELL SIGNALS.
Fire alarms are sounded upon the tower bell at Fire Department head- quarters by striking the number of the signal station nearest to the fire, in the following manner : If for box 4, four distinct strokes and repeated ; if for No. 13, one stroke, a short pause, then three strokes, and repeated, thus : I-III, I-III, etc .; and if for 22, II-II, II-II, etc .; 22 is sounded for all fires within the dis- trict bounded by Fourth, Ninth, Harrison and Monroe streets. strokes, and repeated, followed by the number of the signal station nearest to the fire, is the second alarm, for a serious fire. Three strokes, followed by twelve, and repeated, thus : 3-12, 3-12, etc., is the general alarm for a very threatening and dangerous fire. This calls the entire fire department and a large detail from the police department. Two strokes, slowly, indicates " fire out."

Hospitals.
Christ's Hospital. Just west of city limits, between Ninth and Tenth streets. Ward patients cared for on reasonable terms, and charity patients treated from public subscriptions.
Mineral Wells Hospital. Harrison street, between Second and Third streets. Philip Pickett, proprietor. Medical water, and baths of all kinds.
Private Insane Asylum. Stephen Bedwell, proprietor. Located about one mile east of city limits, on Sixth avenue.
