THE GOLDEN JUBILEE

In reply to the names sent in we sent to each individual the following letter :

Dear Friend and Co-worker :-

You have been recommended to me as one deeply interested in the progress of Baptists, especially the establishment of our Mission and Educational work.

Our State University is a great racial asset. Our General Association will have been organized fifty years next August. At that time the Baptists will hold their Jubilee at Lexington, Ky. In order to have this event the grandest in the history of our de- nomination, we are organizing the "Moderator's Se- cret Service Force," which will cover the State. Membership in it will include membership in the Jubilee Session of the General Association. On joining you will receive a certificate, the Secret Serv- ice Jubilee button and, further on, all Jubilee equip- ments and plans for work in the interval. You, hav- ing been recommended, I am cordially inviting you to join our Force. In your reply send one dollar which will entitle you to membership and all the privileges without other dues, fees or assessments. Let this dollar be your personal offering for the Bap- tist cause in Kentucky.

Put your answer and money in the enclosed en- velope. May God bless you and prosper His cause.

OUR MOTTO :- "More Baptists, and more Bap- tists enlisted for efficient service.

Yours in Christ,

C. H. PARRISH,

Dict. C. H. P. Moderator of General Association.

YOU ARE ASKED to send your $1 or $5 at once as a Jubilee offering.

THE GOLDEN JUBILEE

My Dear Pastor :-

Since last August we have urged individual ef- forts on the part of pastor and laity to send one dol- lar to the Moderator as a Golden Jubilee donation. Our purpose was to get this money in hand by July the first, so as to give the rest of the time to local efforts, on part of pastor and people, to raise in their own way their money for the General Association. Whatever money came through your efforts, the church or the member giving it would have the credit. After repeated letters we have not heard from a great number. I am therefore begging that you use your efforts and have your members send one dollar to the Moderator, and please send your one dollar. Since this is the Jubilee year, I am ask- ing that your church, outside of what may be sent to the Moderator, will line up by raising as much as twenty cents from each member, or an amount equivalent to that. The Methodists, aside from their local church expenses, collect one dollar for their general work from each member. We should make a strenuous effort to do twice as much in this, our year of Jubilee.

Please read this to your church. Tell the church unless they will come to the help of our educational and missionary work, the Baptist cause of Kentucky will go to the rear.

Inroads are being made into our denomination by others who are doing a more creditable work fi- nancially, with only one-third as many members. I am asking also that you emphasize prayer. Pray for the General Association publicly and teach your members to pray for the Association in their mid- week prayer meetings.

74

THE GOLDEN JUBILEE

I appeal to you as pastor, deacons and officers of the church. Read this letter to the people, I am sure they will work as never before.

Yours,

C. H. PARRISH, Moderator

Chairman of Deacon Board or Clerk of the Church. My Dear Brother :-

I have written three times to your pastor in ref- erence to our Jubilee Anniversary to be held in Lex; ington, Ky. You will note that we hope to interest all of our preachers and Baptists, we have asked therefore for the names of twenty-five members of your church, to whom we may write. You will also see that we have placed the name of pastor, church and number of names given in the American Bap- tist. Look at that list and you will see the name of your pastor and church are missing. People are asking why, and I have been telling them that your beloved pastor has just forgotten and left my letters in his other coat pocket, or piled them up with other unanswered letters by mistake. So I am writing, asking that you please call his attention to it, so that your church will get the same information as other churches. I know your pastor will thank you for it. Tell him what we are trying to do-raise one dollar from every Baptist. One dollar will make you a member of the General Association, to be held in Lexington, and you will receive in return a golden certificate and Jubilee button. Send your one dollar at once so that you will be in a position to have others do the same. Now, if your pastor hasn't the time, will you please ask him to give you permission

75

THE GOLDEN JUBILEE

to send me a list of twenty-five names of the mem- bers of your church? Hoping to hear from you at once,

I am yours, C. H. PARRISH, Moderator.

Louisville, Ky., October, 1914.

My Dear Sister :-

At the Baptist Women's Educational Convention when in session at Frankfort, Ky., the Moderator of the General Association made a request: First, you would pray daily and publicly for the General Asso- ciation; Second, that you would send at once to his address ONE DOLLAR which will make you an Annual Member of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the General Association.

I am writing this reminder, hoping to know by your reply how often, if at all, you have prayed for the General Association. Have you heard your pas- tor or any of the deacons pray for it? If not, show your pastor this notice and ask him to make mention of the General Association in his prayers.

If you have overlooked it in the meantime, will vou not from this day make mention of the Associa- tion in your family prayer as well as the Prayer Meeting and in your secret devotion?

In your report, please send ONE DOLLAR in the enclosed envelope and receive in return a re- ceipt for the Annual Membership in the General Association ; a button of the Moderator's Secret Ser- vice Force and a Certificate of membership therein.

Do not delay ; the Master's work requires haste. Yours in Christ,

C. H. PARRISH, Moderator.

Beg leave to inform you that this is the year of Baptist Jubilee in Kentucky. We will meet at Lex ington, August II, 1915. We are asking that your Sunday School be represented in our Jubilee volume by paying one dollar or five dollars, or, if you will fifty dollars as this is the Jubilee year-between this and the first of July. Send the money direct to the Moderator and he will send you a Golden Jubilee Certificate suitable to hang up in the Sunday School showing that you are a member of the General As- sociation.
