' PREFACE.
IT is with pleasure we herewith present to our patrons and the general public the HAVERHILL AND BRADFORD DIRECTORY, for 1889, No. 13 in the series. It has been our constant aim to publish Directories (which we have made a specialty of, since 1862), that shall be a credit not only to us but the communities which they represent, and we express the hope that this edition may meet every reasonable expectation. It is scarcely necessary to state that the difficulties and expenses incident to the compila tion of such a work are enormous, and not to be appre ciated by any except the initiated.
While grateful for tlie generous patronage given to the advertising department, to which we call special attention, we would suggest to every citizen to secure a copy for his business place or residence, not only as a daily convenience but as a valuable record of local history.
The following synopsis shows a gratifying increase since our last issue : 1
