HE 1897 NORTH ADAMS CITY DIRECTORY is herewith pre- sented, enlarged and improved in many ways. Especial attention being paid to the city government, city officers, ward lines, city charter, deatlıs, etc. A colored map with the city divided into wards is a new feature, giving streets (over 200), public buildings, half-mile distances from post-office, railways, rivers, reservoirs, parks, etc. Also account of State Normal School.
Franco-Americain citizen's names and occupation are printed in French, for the first time. This is preliminary to a new system for next year.

TORTH ADAMS is situated in the northern part of Berkshire, the western county of Massachusetts, in latitude 42 deg. 40 min. N. and longitude 3 deg. 53 min. E. It is of perfectly rectangular form, 5 miles east and west and 312 miles north and south. Its meridian lines run due north and south, and its parallels of latitude east and west. It is bounded north by Clarksburg, east by Florida and Savoy, south by Adams and west by Wil- liamstown. Adams was incorporated as a township Oc- tober 15, 1778. On April 15, 1878, the town was divided into two equal parts, the new line between them running east and west. Incorporated as a city in 1895.

The Drury School District.
Includes all pupils of Miner school district above seventh grade; all of the Mark Hopkins school district above sixth grade; all Veazie above fourth grade. It includes all pupils living on both sides of Main street from Brown street to Summit avenue, except the north side of Main from Holden street to Eagle street; all pupils in the territory bounded by Pleasant street to East Quincy, East Quincy to Summit avenue, Summit avenue to Main street, Main street to Pleasant street. It includes all pupils in the territory bounded by Marshall street to Main, Main to Holden, Holden to River street; all pupils north of that section of River street between Eagle and Brooklyn streets, and included between those streets to the Clarksburg line.
The Miner School District.
Beginning at north end of Eagle street, extends south to River street, River to Holden, Holden to Main, Main to Eagle, Eagle to Union, Union to Willow Dell, Willow Dell to Miner street and Main, Main to Summit avenue, Summit avenue to East Quincy, East Quincy to Kemp avenue, Kemp avenue to Five Roads and East Union to Upper Union, thence by Clarksburg line to place of beginning.

Buildings.
The buildings in exterior are of yellow brick and white marble, with metal roofs. The school building, in Italian style, is 152 feet long, 84 feet deep, and three stories and basement in height.
In the basement are the boiler, engine, fuel, heating and jani- . tor's rooms, a lunch room, gymnasium and bath rooms, a room for manual training, and a room for photography ; in the first story, two reception rooms, cloak, coat and toilet rooms, and four natural science laboratories ; in the second story, the assembly hall, office, libraries and class rooms for the languages and mathematics ; in the third story, the physical and chemical laboratories, the drawing and art rooms, and the principal's class room ; and in the attic is ample space for storage.
