PREFACE.
THE present is the sixth number of the Cambridge Directory. It is believed it will be found in no respect in- ferior, and in some particulars superior, to those which have preceded it. The Directory, which forms the main feature of the work, has been carefully revised with much labor and expense, and every effort has been made to render it accurate and reliable. The list of tax-payers, whose tax is over twenty-five dollars, has been carefully compiled from the Assessors' books. The calculations for the Calendar pages were made by Mr. Isaac B. Bradford, a gentleman con- nected with the Nautical Almanac office in this city.
It has been the object of the publishers to present the citizens of Cambridge with a work which should be valuable for every day reference, and a convenience both to citizens and strangers. Should the public avail themselves of the advantages thus presented, the publishers will find, in the ready sale of the work, the accomplishment of a further object they had in view-a moderate remuneration for the trouble and expense they have incurred.
