PREFACE.
THE citizens of Cambridge are presented with the eighth number of the Directory, after an intermission of one year. The delay in its publication has been unavoidable, but it will be found to be none the less useful; and is probably more correct than it would have been had it appeared ear- lier. Few probably, are aware of the amount of labor and care requisite in the publication of a work of this nature. We have endeavored to furnish, besides the Directory com- plete, a :ist of all the officers connected in any way with our City Government, all the Literary, Religious and Bene- volent Societies, the various Banks and other corporate companies, a complete list of the members of the present Congress, and other useful matter for every day reference. The Map has been revised and new streets added. We have enlarged and otherwise improved this number, and hope it may meet with general acceptance. We tender thanks to those of our friends who have assisted us in our labors.
