CIVICO RI

Gift of Tufts College Library PREFACE.

-

WE present to the citizens of Cambridge, the eleventh number of the Cambridge Directory. In doing so, we have to state the gratifying fact, that the population of our city, instead of diminishing, or even remaining in statu quo, is steadily on the increase; so that we have added to the list of names, over and above the number in the Directory of 1859, published by Mr. Baldwin, about one thousand, making thirty-four pages more than were contained in that edition.

We have spared neither pains nor expense, to make this volume a correct and reliable one; and, while we have no doubt that it is far from being perfect, yet it is, probably, as nearly so as the nature of such a work will admit of. With these few prefatory remarks we submit the work, with all its faults, to a discriminating yet indulgent public.

Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1859, by THURSTON, MILES & PRITCHETT,

In the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the District of Mass.
