Annual Report of the Board of Selectmen.
. TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF MILFORD :
The annual report of the Board of Selectmen is herewith : submitted.
HIGHWAYS.
We have carried out the vote of the town in the rebuild- ing of Main street, from Water street to the Hopedale town line, out of the regular appropriation for highways, and that part of the street is now in first class condition.
Special appropriations were made for Depot street and Parker Hill avenue and those streets were rebuilt in a satis- factory manner.
The work on a part of Daniels street was started, but .owing to the frost was suspended.
We recommend the re-surfacing of Main street, East Main : street, South Main and Medway streets during the present year.
The boiler at the crushing plant has been condemned and we recommend the purchase of a new boiler:
We recommend the purchase of a new road roller as the present one has outlived its usefulness and is not worth re- pairing.
SIDEWALKS.
During the year a number of sidewalks have been re- paired and new walks built on Jefferson, South Main and . Church streets.
WATERING STREETS.
During the past year oil and water were used on the streets for dust laying, and gave general satisfaction.
We used water on Main and East Main streets, and made a contract with the M. & U. St. Ry. Co. to sprinkle said streets, and oil was used on the remaining streets.
We found this system to be the most economical.
15
TOWN HALL.
The tower on Town Hall is unsafe and there is great danger of it falling at any time, thereby causing injuries to people passing on sidewalk.
New steps are needed in front of the building and the building should be painted.
We recommend the above improvements.
STREET LIGHTING.
The matter of street lighting is under investigation and therefore we have no recommendations to make at this time.
We would remind the citizens that there are no contracts at present with either lighting company.
MOTH SUPPRESSION.
We recommend an appropriation for the suppression of gypsy and brown tail moths sufficient to carry on the work as directed by the State Forester.
Following will be found a financial statement of the ex- penses of the departin 'nts under our supervision, and also the report of the highway superintendent.
