Article 1. To choose all necessary Town Officers, the follow- ing officers to be voted on one ballot, viz: a Moderator for one year, two Selectmen for three years, one Town Treasurer & Col- lector of Taxes for two years, two members of the School Com- mittee for three years, one member of the Board of Assessors for three years, one member of the Finance Committee for one year, one member of the Finance Committee for two years, two mem- bers of the Finance Committee for three years, one member of the Planning Board for one year, one member of the Planning Board for two years, one member of the Planning Board for three years, one member of the Planning Board for four years, one member of the Planning Board for five years.

Article 3: To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1944, and to issue a note or notes there- for, payable within one year and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accord with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.


VOTED to adopt.


Article 4: To hear the report of any committees or officers of the Town, to appoint any committee or take any action relative thereto.


VOTED that the Moderator be authorized to appoint a com- mittee of five to conduct an immediate investigation of the Cherry Street Railroad crossing at which two fatal accidents have oc- curred within the last month causing the death of five persons; and that the committee take immediate steps to contact the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroads and such other authori- ties or agencies as may be necessary for the purpose of eliminat- ing the existing hazard at this crossing.


The Moderator appointed the following committee :-


Frederick W. daCosta, Edward Bailey, William J. MacDougall, George A. Philbrook, and James T. McKechnie.


Article 5: To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate for the use of the Plymouth County Trustees for County Aid to Agriculture, a sum not exceeding two hundred (200) dollars, and choose a Town director for one year, as provided in Sections 41 and 45 of revised Chapter 128 of the General Laws, or take any action relative thereto.


VOTED that the Town raise and appropriate for the use of the Plymouth County Trustees for County Aid to Agriculture the sum of two hundred (200) dollars, and choose as Town director, H. Arthur Standish, for one year, as provided in Sections 41 and 45 of Chapter 128 of the General Laws and amendments thereto.


Article 6: To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the purpose of repairing road machin- ery, and act anything thereon.


VOTED that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of five hundred (500) dollars for the purpose of repairing Road Machinery.

Article 7: To see if the Town will vote that the income from sales of Gas and Electricity to private consumers or for gas and electricity supplied to municipal buildings or for municipal power and street lights, to be appropriated for the municipal lighting plant, the whole to be expended by the Manager of the municipal lighting under the direction and control of the Board of Selectmen for the expense of the plant for said fiscal year, as defined in Section 57 of Chapter 164 of General Laws, and that, if said in- come shall exceed such expense for such fiscal year, such excess shall be transferred to the Construction fund of said plant and ap- propriated and used for such additions thereto as may thereafter be authorized by the Board of Selectmen, and act thereon.


VOTED to adopt.


Article 8: To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of twenty-eight hundred thirty-nine and 68-100 dollars 2839.68) from the Road Machinery Fund to the Road Machinery Account, and act anything thereon.


VOTED to adopt.


Article 9: To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of two thousand ( 2000.00) to be used for the main- tenance and reconstruction of Spruce Street, said sum to be ex- pended in conjunction with State and County Funds as provided by Chapter 90 and amendments of the General Laws, and to take any action thereon.


VOTED to adopt.


Article 10: To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money to defray the expenses of the Rationing Board, and to act anything thereon.


VOTED that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of nine hundred dollars ($900.) to defray the expenses of the Rationing Board.


Article 11: To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the sum of eighteen thousand ( 18,000.00) dollars by transfer from the available funds in the Middleboro Gas and Electric Department for the use of the assessors in fixing the tax rate for the year 1944.


VOTED to adopt.


Article 12: To see if the Town will vote to accept the provi- sion of Paragraph 3 of the will of Mary Hullahan as follows :-


"I give and bequeath to the Town of Middleboro, Massachu- setts, the sum of three thousand ($3,000.00) dollars, the said sum to be used for the purchase of books for children to be placed in, the public library in said Middleboro. I desire the collection of books so purchased to be known as the Mary Hullahan Collection" and act anything thereon.


VOTED that the Town accept the provision of paragraph 3 of the will of Mary Hullahan as per article.
