Annual Town Meeting, Monday, February 4, 1952. To Allen Towne, Con- stable of the Town of Hancock, Mass.


Greeting:


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby directed to notify the inhabitants of the Town of Hancock qualified to vote in election and in Town affairs to meet in the Town Hall in said Hancock on Monday, February 4, 1952, at 9 o'clock a. m. and there to act on the following articles, viz .:


First-To choose the following Town Officers:


One Moderator for one year.


One Town Clerk for one year.


One Selectman for three years. One Assessor for three years.


One Collector and Treasurer for one year.


One Auditor for one year.


One Library Trustee for three years.


One Tree Warden for one year.


One Cemetery Committee for three years.


One Constable for one year.


One School Committee for three years.


One Finance Committee for three years.


Note-The following articles will not be acted upon until 10.30 o'clock.


Second-To hear the report of the Selectmen and other town officers and act thereon.


Third-To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning Jan. 1, 1952 and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 14, General Laws.


Fourth-To see if the Town will accept the list of Jurors as made out and posted by the Selectmen.

Sixth-To see if the Town will increase the salary of the Moderator by twenty dollars ($20), requested by Wayne D. Hunter.


Seventh-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of two thousand five hundred fifty-two dollars ($2,552.00) or any other sum for Town Officers' Salaries.


Eighth-To see if the Town will appoint a committee of three to investigate ways to improve the telephone service by having all the telephones within the town limits under one exchange, requested by Wayne D. Hunter. Jerne ( do cer))


Ninth-To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to ap- point one of its members as Superintendent of Streets, to the Board of Public Welfare and Old Age Assistance and Aid to Dependent Children, and Inspector of Animals. Salary or remuneration to be fixed in the above vote.


Tenth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of fifty dollars ($50.00) or any other sum for Memorial Day and to select one to take charge of same.


Eleventh-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of one thou- sand four hundred and five dollars ($1,405.00) or any other sum as requested by the State Department to be used under Chapter 81.


Twelfth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of three thou- sand five hundred dollars ($3,500.00) or any other sum for removing snow and care of winter roads and snow fence.


Thirteenth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of eight hundred dollars for Chap. 90 Maintenance or any other sum.


Fourteenth-To see if the Town will appropriate $500.00 or any other sum from the Free Cash in the Treasury for Chap. 90 Construction.


Fifteenth-To see what the Town will vote to pay Town Laborers.


Sixteenth-To see what the Town will vote to pay Highway Superintendent.


Seventeenth-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate $1,250.00 or any other sum for Disability Assistance.


Eighteenth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate $200.00 or any other sum for Administration of Disability Assistance.

Twenty-seventh-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of nineteen thousand nine hundred six dollars ($19,906.00) for Schools or any other sum.


Twenty-eighth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate three hundred dollars ($300.00) or any other sum for books and maintenance of Library and grounds. Also the dog fund $182.65.


Twenty-ninth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate four hundred fifty dollars ($450.00) or any other sum for upkeep of Cemetery.


Thirtieth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate one hundred dollars ($100.00) or any other sum for Forest Fires and equipment.


Thirty-first-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate twelve hundred dollars ($1,200.00) or any other sum for Contingent Expenses.


Thirty-second-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) or any other sum to be used by the Tree Warden.

Thirty-fifth-To see if the Town will appropriate two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) or any other sum for the maintenance, operation and housing of the Fire Engine.

Thirty-seventh-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) for Community Christmas and appoint a Committee to have charge of same or take any action thereon.


Thirty-eighth-To see if the Town will vote to appropriate ten thousand eight hundred dollars ($10,800.00) to provide for the State's and County's shares of the cost of Chapter 81 and 90 highway work, said sum to be restored to free cash upon receipt of the reimbursements from the State and County.


Thirty-ninth-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate two hundred forty-four dollars and eighty-six cents ($244.86) or any other sum as re- quested by the Berkshire County Commissioners for retirement board expense.


Fortieth-To see if the Town will raise one hundred seven dollars and seventy- four cents or any other sum for Dutch Elm Disease control.


Forty-first-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate two hundred sixty-four dollars ($264.00) or any other sum for street lights.


Forty-second-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate two hundred fifteen dollars and forty-eight cents ($215.48) for Gypsy Moth Control Work as required under Mass. General Laws, Chap. 132.


Forty-third-To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from the Free Cash in the Treasury the following sums to pay unpaid bills-Old Age Assistance $1,150.17; Dept. Public Welfare $3,750.00.


Forty-fourth-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate $153.00 or any other sum for the Red Cross, requested by the Red Cross Committee.

Forty-fifth-To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $800.00 or any other sum for preparation and plans for the School building, requested by the Central School Building Committee.


Forty-sixth-To see if the Town will vote to retain the present Central School Committee in force for another year, requested by the Central School Building Committee.


Forty-seventh-To see if the Town will vote to raise $10.00 or any other sum of money and appoint an official to make a copy of the Tax Valuations on Real Estate and leave in a public place available to all, requested by Mrs. George Whit- man.

Forty-eighth-To see if the Town will vote to hold the Annual Business meeting in the evening beginning at 7.30 P. M. instead of during the day as at present, requested by Charles J. McDonald.


Forty-ninth-To see if the Town will vote to take for the purposes of a public way an easement in, over and upon a strip of land 24 feet wide, commencing at the northerly end of Taylor Lane and approximating the course of the present travelled way from the end of Taylor Lane to the back door yard of the house now owned and occupied by Florence Chittenden, requested by Florence Chittenden.


Fiftieth-To transact any other business that may legally come before said meeting.


And the Selectmen give notice that the polls will be closed at 6.30 o'clock p. m. and you are hereby directed to serve this warrant by posting at least two attested copies thereof in public places in Town at least seven days before said meeting- hereof fail not and make due returns of your doings thereon to the Town Clerk at the time and place of the meeting aforesaid.
