Greeting:


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby directed to notify the inhabitants of the Town of Hancock qualified to vote in election and in Town affairs to meet in the Town Hall in said Hancock on Monday, February 2, 1953, at 9 o'clock a. m. and there to act on the following articles, viz .:


First-To choose the following Town Officers:


One Moderator for one year.


One Town Clerk for one year.


One Selectman for three years. One Assessor for three years.


One Collector and Treasurer for one year.


One Auditor for one year.


One Library Trustee for three years.


One Tree Warden for one year.


One Cemetery Committee for three years.


One Constable for one year.


One School Committee for three years.


One Finance Committee for three years.


And vote on Question No. 1 on ballot.


Note-The following articles will not be acted upon until 10.30 o'clock.


Second-To hear the report of the Selectmen and other town officers and act thereon.


Third-To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning Jan. 1, 1953 and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 14, General Laws.


Fourth-To see if the Town will accept the list of Jurors as made out and posted by the Selectmen.

Sixth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of two thousand five hundred seven dollars ($2507.00) or any other sum for Town Officers' Sal- aries. (Recommended by Finance Committee).


Seventh-To see if the Town will vote to permit the Board of Selectmen to appoint one of its members as Superintendent of Streets, to the Board of Public Welfare and Old Age Assistance and Aid to Dependent Children, and Inspector of Animals. Salary or remuneration to be fixed in the above vote.


Eighth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of fifty dollars ($50.00) or any other sum for Memorial Day and to select one to take charge of same. (Recommended by Finance Committee).


Ninth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of one thousand four hundred and five dollars ($1,405.00) or any other sum as requested by the State Department to be used under Chapter 81. (Recommended by Finance Committee).

Thirty-eighth-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate three hundred forty-three dollars and seventy-nine cents ($343.79) or any other sum as requested by the Berkshire County Commissioners for retirement board expense. (Recommended by Finance Committee).

Forty-first-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate two hundred fifteen dollars ($215.00) for Gypsy Moth Control Work as required under Mass. General Laws, Chap. 132. (Recommended by Finance Committee).


Forty-second-To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from the free cash in the Treasury three hundred dollars ($300.00) or any other sum to re-decorate the Town Hall upstairs. (Recommended by Finance Committee).


Forty-third-To see if the voters will vote to ratify and confirm the location of a Horse race track in the Town of Hancock, as approved by the Selectmen.


Forty-fourth-To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to make an agreement with the City of Pittsfield to provide fire protection to that area of the Town extending approximately from the Lebanon Springs Mountain Road south to the Richmond, and from the top of Lebanon Mountain east to the Pittsfield line. (Requested by Stanley Cooke).


Forty-fifth-To see if the Town will vote to have all official meetings open to the public and a record made at each meeting of its minutes, to be kept with the other town records. A notice of said meetings to be posted and published in the two daily papers received in the Town. Meetings to be held in Town Hall or School Houses. (Requested by Augusta D. Whitman).


Forty-sixth-To see if the Town will vote to extend the electric lights to the New York State line and raise a sum of money to pay for same. This would require three new lights. (Requested by Augusta D. Whitman). (Not acted upon by Finance Committee).


Forty-seventh-To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Central School Building Committee to select a site for a Central School Building, providing that such a site meet the approval of the voters. (Requested by School Building Committee).


Forty-eighth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) to be used by the School Building Committee for the hiring of an architect and for other expenses. (Requested by School Building Committee). (Not acted upon by Finance Committee).

Forty-ninth-To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of two hundred sixty-four dollars ($264.00) to pay unpaid Forest Fire bills of 1950.


Fiftieth-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate five dollars ($5.00) or any other sum for Land Damage expense. (Recommended by Finance Committee).


Fifty-first-To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate five dollars ($5.00) or any other sum for Civilian Defense expense. (Recommended by Finance Committee).
