SELECTMEN'S REPORT
To the Citizens of Dighton:
The financial year closes with only a small amount of uncollected taxes in a commitment of about $106,000. The promptness in tax payments, the activity in new building construction and real estate transfers, indicate general prosperity.
HIGHWAYS
The change made in the management and care of our macadam and dirt streets has resulted in noticeable im- provement. One and two-tenths miles on Center Street has been macadamized costing $24,850. The town appro- priated $18000 and the County $7000. Spring Street from Summer to Pearl Street has been improved with a rein- forced cement construction, the town paying $8000 and the rest of the expense was met by the Mount Hope Finishing Co.

HIGHWAY NEEDS
A liberal sum is needed for the repairs and improvement of the dirt roads and for patching and oiling macadam streets. The condition of the bridge over the Segreganset River on Elm Street calls for widening and extensive repairs. The Street Railway uses this bridge and will be called upon to aid in the reconstruction. About one and three-tenths miles of Williams Street to the Swansea line remains to be macadamized. The State is ready to meet one-half of the expense. An appropriation of $7000 for two years with a like aid from the State would complete the job. At North Dighton some of our macadam streets built in 1906 are pressingly in need of resurfacing, School and Pearl Streets, a section of Lincoln Avenue and Spring Street.
A SUGGESTION
From Colonial times our people have been active in business and professional pursuits.
Men noted in the religious, judicial, civil and military affairs have lived in our town. They have handed down to

their descendants much valuable and interesting material consisting of furniture, manuscripts, account books, diaries and engravings which should be preserved.
We have no suitable place to keep such articles and there- fore we suggest that one be provided by building an addi- tion to the Public Library.
Further information concerning the financial affairs of the town will be found in the reports of the different de- partments.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHACE, GEO. B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS, Dighton.

Contagious diseases reported :
Measles and Chicken Pox have been very prevalent. Tuberculosis 4 Cases
Scarlet Fever
Diptheria
15 Cases 3 Cases
Neglect to report contagious diseases to the local Board of Health by Physicians or Householders is a punishable of- fense. To meet the requirements of the General Laws relative to Tuberculosis patients will greatly increase the expense of the department. This year we are assessed for the main- tenance of the Bristol County Tuberculosis, $2,173.50. Patients sent to that institution we have to pay for care and board $9.10 per week and clothing. Under this condition we estimate that the town should appropriate $1,000.
