ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH
To His Honor the Mayor and City Council.
GENTLEMEN: - The board of health hereby submits its annual report for the year 1907. There has been an increase in the number of contagious diseases over last year, which will account for the corresponding increase in the expenses in this department. For the year ending December 31, 1907, the total number of such cases was 120, against 74 for the year previous. These cases have been treated mostly by the city physician. Under laws of the commonwealth, these patients were provided with the necessities for their com- fort and sustenance at the expense of the city.
The five year contract for the removal and disposal of gar- bage, made in 1905, is still in force and is being performed in a satisfactory manner, and with few complaints.
The board herewith submits the accompanying reports from the different departments, and also, the report of its agent.
Respectfully submitted, ORRIN J. GURNEY, Chairman, J. B. FROST, DR. JAMES O. LACAILLADE,
Board of Health.

BOARD OF HEALTH
SCHOOL PHYSICIAN'S REPORT
To the Board of Health of the City of Newburyport.
GENTLEMEN: - I herewith submit my report as school physician from October 1, 1906, to December 31, 1907 :
I have made frequent visits to the schools to inspect the buildings, and to examine the children referred to me. Chil- dren with the following diseases were found and sent home for treatment: Impetigo contagiosa 1, scabies 4, tonsilitis 2, tuberculosis. A pupil teacher was also sent home for treatment for tonsilitis.
I examined a number of other children but did not ex- clude them from school, as their complaints were not conta- gious, and their health would not be impaired by remaining in school.
The toilet rooms at the Curtis school are in a poor con- dition, and should be repaired immediately.
Respectfully submitted, CHARLES F. JOHNSON,
December 31, 1907.
City Physician.
