ART. 2. Water bonds, issue of 1890.
Voted, That we hereby accept the act entitled "An Act to authorize the Town of Melrose to make an additional Water Loan," same being Chap. 220, of the Acts of the year 1890, and we hereby authorize and direct the issue of fifty bonds, each of the denomination of $1,000 bearing on their face the words:

That a committee of nine be appointed by the Moderator to transact the following business for the Town:
First, To alter and improve the High school building sub- stantially in accordance with the plans of George F. Loring, submitted.
Second, To purchase and take deeds to the Town of the land on the north-west corner of First and Eleventh streets, and build a school house thereon as recommended in the re- port of the committee.
Third, To purchase and take a deed to the Town of the "F. C. Taylor lot," so called, on the east side of Main street, sell the house thereon for removal and build a brick gram- mar school house thereon. And that the sum of forty-five thousand three hundred dollars be appropriated for the said repairs, land and buildings, and the Town treasurer be authorized to borrow money for the same. Committee ap- pointed to carry out the above vote: F. S. Hesseltine, Charles W. Higgins, Frank E. Orcutt, George L. Morse, John W. Farwell, Rufus A. White, A. B. Franklin, Curtis C. Goss, George H. Dearborn. On a motion to reconsider the above, not a vote.
Voted, To adjourn to Monday evening, June 2, 1890, at 7.30 o'clock.

ART. 4. Berwick street drain. Voted, Unanimously, that the selectmen be authorized to construct a drain from Fos- ter street, through Berwick street to Ell Pond brook near Wyoming station, provided the Orthodox Congregational church will pay four hundred dollars toward the expense of building the same, and that the treasurer be authorized to

borrow not exceeding eight hundred and ninety-one dollars for the total expense of said drain.
ART. 5. Otis street drain. Voted, Unanimously, that the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars be appropriated for the laying of a drain in Otis street and that the treasurer be authorized to borrow said amount.
ART. 6. Melrose street. l'oted, Unanimously, that the sum of five hundred dollars be appropriated for the building of a sidewalk on the south side of Melrose street, and for the making of other repairs on said street, and that the treasur- er be authorized to borrow said sum.
ART. 7. Grove street sidewalk. Voted, That the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars be appropriated and that the treasurer be authorized to borrow the same.
ART. 8. Sewers, drains, etc. l'oted, To indefinitely post- pone.
ART. 9. Stone crusher. Voted, Unanimously, that the selectmen be instructed to purchase a stone crusher and the necessary machinery and power to operate the same, to purchase also any ledge for the supply of material to fur- nish crushed stone for the building of, and repairs upon, the highways, and that the sum of thirty-five hundred dollars be appropriated for the purposes named and that the treasurer be authorized to borrow said amount.
ART. 10. Electric lighting. Verbal report of committee on electric lighting, no recommendations, - no action taken.
ART. II. Pleasant street sidewalk.
Report of selectmen as to estimated cost of sidewalk ou Pleasant street.

ART. 12. Wyoming avenue sidewalk.
Voted, Unanimously that the sum of five hundred dollars be appropriated for the building of a sidewalk on the north side of Wyoming avenue, from Cleaveland street to Stone- ham line, and that the Treasurer be authorized to borrow said sum.
ART. 13. Hose house lot, Wyoming.
The selectmen made a report upon the matter of selling the lot purchased at Wyoming as a location for a hose house.
Voted, That the lot be sold at auction to the highest bid- der, the money received to be turned into the treasury, that the minimum price for which the land shall be sold, shall be its cost to the town, that the matter of selecting another lot for the same purpose be referred to the seleclmen, and that they be requested to report upon the same at the next meet- ing.
ELL POND AND SPOT POND BROOKS.
The committee on removal of obstructions in Ell Pond and Spot Pond brooks reported that a petition to the county commissioners had been prepared as follows :

Voted, That the board of park commissioners be instructed to wait upon the heirs of the late Hon. S. E. Sewall, and ascertain upon what conditions the Sewall estate on Vin- ton street can be acquired by the town.

To cither of the Constables of the Town of Melrose, in the County of Middlesex, GREETING.
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify the inhabitants of the town of Melrose, qualified to vote in elections and town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, on Monday, the fifteenth day of September, A. D., 1890, at 7.30 o'clock, P. M., then and there to act on the following articles, viz .:

5. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer to borrow a sufficient sum to complete, set up, and operate the stone crusher, voted at the last town meeting, and for plac- ing the material produced upon the highways.
6. To see if the town will repair the drain pipe on Wyoming avenue, between Main street and the brook, and put in additional catch basins elsewhere, and authorize the treasurer to borrow money to complete the same.
7. To see if the town will authorize the treasurer to borrow a sum sufficient to complete the grading of Bo- tolph street.
8. To hear and act upon the reports of committees, and transact any business which may legally come before said meeting.

ART. I. Chose Levi S. Gould, Moderator.
ART. 2. Vinton and High street ledges.
Voted, Unanimously, that the treasurer be authorized to borrow the sum of eighty-five dollars, to complete the contract.
ART. 3. Walton Park.
Voted, Unanimously, that the treasurer be authorized to borrow two hundred and seventy-five dollars, to complete work on Walton Park.
ART. 4. Sidewalks.
Voted, That the treasurer be authorized to pay, not ex- ceeding six hundred dollars, from monies received as assessments made upon estates, to be expended for concrete walks applied for.
ART. 5. Stone crusher, machinery, etc.
Voted, That the treasurer be authorized to borrow the sum of thirteen hundred and fifty dollars in addition to amount authorized at previous meeting, viz .: $3,500, and that the selectmen be instructed to purchase a ledge and a "Gates" stone crusher, with necessary machinery to operate the same before April 1, 1891 ; and that the selectmen be also au- thorized to remove the hearse house from its present loca- tion, for use as a building in which to place machinery, etc.
ART. 6. Drain Wyoming avenue, and catch basins.
Voted, That the treasurer be authorized to borrow the sum of eight-hundred and thirty-five dollars, for the laying of drain and the building of catch basins deemed necessary, as per report of selectmen.

ART. 7. Botolph street.
Voted, That the treasurer be authorized to borrow the sum of two hundred and eighty-five dollars for the completion of work on Botolph street.
ART. 8. Hose house land at Wyoming.
Report of selectmen on sale of land which was pur- chased as a location for a hose house at Wyoming, made verbally and accepted. A deed conveying the premises to Henry Lynde for the sum of $530.13 was submitted.
Voted, That Levi S. Gould, the chairman of the board of selectmen, is hereby authorized to execute, acknowledge, and deliver in the name and behalf of the inhabitants of the town of Melrose, the deed which has just been read.
Voted, That the selectmen be instructed to appear before the county commissioners, at the hearing to be held on the 29th inst., and oppose the widening of Main street. Previous question ordered, affirmative, 61 ; negative, 9.
Voted, To adjourn, sine die.

ART. 12. To see if the town will build and concrete a sidewalk opposite land of George Abbot, which will necessi- tate the removal of a ledge, and authorize the payment of the same, on petition of Seth E. Benson and others.
ART. 13. To see if the town will accept the following streets as laid out by the selectmen and authorize the Treas- urer to borrow money for the building and grading of the same, if necessary. An extension of Park street, easterly; an extension of Highland street, westerly; a widening, re- location and extension of the lines of Baxter street; an ex- tension of Sanford street, westerly; street running from San- ford street to Wyoming avenue, now known as Whittier street; street running from Sanford street to Baxter street, now known as Cutter street.
ART. 14. To see if the town will lay a stone crossing on Essex street, opposite Vine street, and authorize the Treasurer to borrow money for the same on petition of E. H. Goss and others.
ART. 15. To see if the town will put in three or more fire alarm boxes and authorize the Treasurer to borrow mon- ey for the same, by request of the Engineers of the Fire Department.
ART. 16. To see if the town will authorize the Water Commissioners to expend an additional amount for con- struction, and authorize the Treasurer to sell bonds for the same.
