DANIEL (Daniel = Elizabeth Tenney), was b. at Bradford, Mass., July 3, 1778, and was grad. at Har. Coll. 1800. His w., whom he m. at Bradford, March 22, 1808, was Betsey Gage, dau. of Peter and Mary (Webster) Gage. In 1808 he accepted the appointment of preceptor of Derby Academy in Hing., and remained here until the spring of 1826, - preaching occasionally ; was ordained in 1817 as an evangelist. He resided on Main, near Water St .; but, upon the termination of his academic duties, removed to Needham, Mass., where he d. 17 Jan. 1862, æt. 85th yr.

1. WILLIAM, the ancestor of all who have borne this surname in Hing. and vic. by birth, was prob. from the western part of Eng., where, according to tradition, one or more of his dau's was m. The precise date at which he came to New Eng. is unknown. It is certain, however, that he was a resident of Dorchester as early as 1635, and prob. a wid:, as no mention is made of his w. either upon Dor. or Hing. rec's. The foll. parcels of land were granted to him at Dor. in 1637, viz. : "Jan. 2. It is ordered that Good : Lane shall haue one acre [at] the little neck towards the harbor." On the 18th of March foll. he had two additional grants of between six and seven acres ; and at his decease he bequeathed to dau. Mary Long " my great lot " of ab. 24 acres. He also bequeathed to Thomas Rider "my Sonne in Law " and dau. Elizabeth his w. " my new dwelling-house " in Dor. with all the outhousing, gardens, etc. Also to his sons and sons in law, a spe- cified sum to each, in silver. He d. ab. 1654. His will, proved 6 July

3. ANDREW 2 (William 1), had a grant of a house-lot containing five acres on Town (North) St., the same as did his bro. George, Sept. 18, 1635. He also had ten acres granted him at "Nutty Hill," and six shares in the common lands. Apr. 6, 1648, he purchased of Aaron Ludkin of Charlestown, a house-lot in Hing. containing five acres with a dwelling and buildings thereon. This lot had previously been granted by the town to George Ludkin, the fa. of Aaron, and was bounded by George Lane eastward, Nicholas Baker westward, and the town street southward. He also purchased of said Ludkin, land which had been granted to his fa. George Ludkin, at Pleasant Hill, at the Great Lots, at Weir River, at Squirrel Hill, at the Plaine Neck, and at Broad Cove. The chris. name of his w. was Triphany. She d. in Hing. 2 Jan. 1706-7, æt. ab. 95 yrs. He d. 1 May, 1675. The inv. of his est. taken by Joshua Hobart and Nathaniel Beal, was appraised at £235, 3s., and inc. dw .- house, barn, salt meadow and other lands ; 4 oxen, 4 cows, 2 yearlings, 2 calves, etc. "Felt-maker," and " far- mer." Resided on North St., next west of the way leading to Squirrel , Hill.
