This cemetery contains nearly one hundred acres, about one-half of which is under improvement. Its location is near the territorial centre of the city, and is accessible by excellent roads from every direction. The surface is undulating and sufficiently diversified for natural beauty and artificial embellishment. It is well watered by Cold Spring brook, and only requires reasonable expenditure to carry water to every part sufficient for irrigation and to maintain ponds where nature has provided locations.
A beautiful chapel and conservatory, donated by Mr. John S. Far- low, makes a fitting place for burial services, the fee for use being $10. In the rear of the Chapel is a beautiful lake, adding greatly to the landscape of the cemetery.
The prices for lots are from $1.50 to $3.25 per square foot, per- petual care included. If the monuments are elaborate the rate of perpetual care is higher.
The price of two grave lots is $90 and upwards, including per- petual care. Right to bury in single graves for adults is $20, and the interment fee is $5; and for children under 11 years is $15, and the interment fee is $4.
Receiving tomb. Time limit for use six months.
Deposit,
$10.00
If removal is made inside of four months $5 of original deposit will be refunded, if interred in Newton Cemetery.
If removed from cemetery, $10 will be retained.
At expiration of four months a charge of $2.50 per month will be made.
No other expense than the prices above named is necessary, except for tablets and monuments, and the practice of ornamenting with elaborate stone work is discouraged by the trustees as much as pos- sible.
Connected with the cemetery there are greenhouses, where plants and flowers can be purchased for use in the cemetery.
The cars of the Newton and Boston electric railroad pass the gate every twenty minutes. Cars on the Commonwealth Avenue line from Boston, Auburndale and Newtonville pass near the cemetery.
