WARD 3. - The easterly boundary of Ward 3 starts at the Clarks- burg line and follows Franklin street to Eagle down Eagle to the Hoosac river, thence westerly along the river to Brooklyn street, up Brooklyn to Liberty, to Phillips thence due north to the Clarksburg line.


WARD 4 .- The easterly boundary of Ward 4 is the line between Florida and North Adams south to a point opposite the Five Roads thence due west to the East Mountain school, thence north-westerly to East Main street down East Main through Willow Dell to the Hoosac river, thence along the river to Eagle street up Eagle and Franklin streets to the Clarksburg line.

Flagg's property on State street. The boundary line then runs due east to Ashland street and north-westerly along Ashland street to Washing. ton avenue to Church down Church to the juuction of Main, thence in a general easterly direction along East Main to the East Moun. tain school and thence due east to Florida line.


WARD 6. - Starting at the Holden street bridge the lines of Ward 6 run alongside the north branch of the loosac river to and through Willow Dell to East Main, thence to the junction of East Main and Church, and down Church to Washington avenue; thence along Washington avenue to Ashland street ; thence northerly along Ash- land street to Quincy, westerly through Quincy to its termination ; thence northerly across Summer street to and through Holden street to the bridge.


WARD 7 .- Starting at the Brown street bridge the boundary of Ward 7 runs along the north branch of the Hoosac river to Holden street thence through Holden across Main to the western terminus of Quincy street; thence through Quincy to Ashland southeasterly through Ashland to the point opposite J. H. Flagg's property on State street thence southerly along the south branch of the Hoosac river to the Adams line ; thence westerly to a point equi-distant from the Adams turnpike to the Notch road ; thence due north through the Tinney and Witherell properties to the easterly boundary of the cemetery ; thence along Brown street to the bridge, the point of be- ginning.

Etxract from Ordinance Concerning Licenses, Amusements, Theatres, Etc.


SEC. 5. Every person licensed to set up, maintain or carry on any theatrical exhibition, public show, public amusement or exhibition, mentioned in Section 115 of Chapter 102 of the Pub- lic Statutes, shall pay the following rates :


For theatrical exhibitions or shows, for each day and evening, · five dollars.


For theatrical exhibitions or shows given in the Columbia Opera house and Bijou Theatre for one year, fifty dollars for each place.


For skating rinks or parks, for one year, twenty-five dollars.


For public racing or trial of speed of horses, for each day, five dollars.


For travelling circuses or travelling shows, exhibiting in tents, for each day and evening, from twenty-five dollars to one hundred dollars.


For all other shows, amusements and exhibitions embraced within the provisions of said section, such sums as the said li- cense committee or majority thereof shall determine at the time of the application for the license.


Provided, however, that no such license shall permit enter- tainment for gain and reward upon the Lord's day, or exhibi- tions of wrestling or sparring upon any day, unless the partic- ular exhibition or entertainment shall be petitioned for, and the license therefor granted by a two-thirds vote of the mem- bers of the City Council present at a meeting thereof.


Every license granted under this section shall, (if required by the Committee on Licenses) be upon condition that one or more police officers, to be paid by the licensee, be assigned to duty at the place of such exhibition, for the keeping of order thereat.


The Mayor, President of the City Council, City Clerk, Com- mittee on Licenses and Chief of Police or his deputies, shall have the right to visit at all times such places of amusements as are licensed under the provisions of this ordinance.

Extract from Ordinance concerning Licenses, Dealers in Junk and Second-hand Articles.


SEC. 8. The License Committee may license suitable per- sons to be dealers in and keepers of shops for the purchase, sale or barter of junk, old metals or second-hand articles, at such places within the city as may be designated in such licen- ses, under such conditions and restrictions as are hereinafter pre- scribed, which shall be incorporated in every such license. The licensee shall pay for the license two dollars. Every keeper of a sliop licensed as aforesaid shall keep a book in which shall be written at the time of every purchase, a description of the junk, old metal or second-hand articles so purchased, the name, age and residence of the person from whom, and the day and hour when such purchase was made. Such book shall at all times be open for inspection of the Chief of Police, and of any mem- ber of the City Council. Every keeper of such shop shall put in some suitable and conspicuous place on his shop a sign having his name and occupation legibly inscribed thereon in large letters. Such shops and all articles of merchandise therein, may at all times be examined by the Chief of Police or any member of the City Council. No keeper of such shop shall directly or indirectly either purchase or receive by way of bar- ter or exchange any of the articles aforesaid of a minor or ap- prentice, knowing or having reason to believe him to be such and no article purchased or received shall be sold until a period of at least one week from the date of its purchase or receipt has elapsed, unless the name and address of the person to whom such article has been sold, with other facts as may be necessary to facilitate the tracing of such article, having been entered on the book mentioned in this section. No wagon shall be used for the collection of junk, metal, rags or second- hand articles, unless licensed by the City Council. Every such wagon shall bear conspicuously the owner's name and the number of the license on the outside and on each side. It shall be the duty of the City Clerk to keep a record of the name and residence of every peddler licensed by the city, together with the number of the vehicle used in his business, and of the par- ticular business for which his license is granted; a list of deal- ers in articles mentioned in this Ordinance, and of the places wherein the business is to be carried on; and also a list of all persons employed by any such peddler or dealer in the peddling or collecting of any such articles. Whoever, not being so licensed, keeps such shop, or any licensed dealer who keeps such shop in any place or manner other than that designated in his license, or after notice to him that his license has been revoked, and whoever violates any rule, regulation or restric- tion contained in his license shall forfeit a sum not exceeding twenty dollars for each offense.
