P. 220 Jan. 5. Confession of Brother Jabez Colt read before the Church.

To this Church, I desire to confess, that in years past, I have grievously offended God, dishonoured the cause of Christ, and wounded the feelings of the members of the Church, by the sin of intemperance. I acknow- ledge with shame and deep sorrow, my. many and aggravated sins & transgressions. But though my sins are very great, and I have heen a wanderer far from duty and from God, yet I indulge the humble hope that he has given me grace to repent and find pardon.

And now I come to my brethren and sisters in the Lord with sorrow of heart, and beg them to forgive me, and pray for me, that I may henceforth be mercifully kept from my besetting sin, & by grace be able to wit- ness the genuineness of my repentance, by a temperate and godly life; & spend the days that may be allotted me here, in obeying and serving my Saviour.

And again I ask the prayer of God's people that I may have strength given me from on high, to be true to the purpose of my mind, and to the pledge I now desire to give, henceforth to use as a drink nothing that can intoxicate.
