DOINGS
respecting his present situation in the church, - Mr. Taylor had been complained of August 1798 for absenting himself from this meeting house & hearing & hearing unauthorized preachers, especially those of the universalist persuasion. The commee agreeably to request conversed with sd. Taylor. The sd. Taylor supposed that he had a right to attend other meetings & did not view his conduct in this respect to be criminal. He was therefore unwilling to do anything more than to promise that he would never again leave this chh. & go to hear other preachers.
-
Jan. 13, 1805, Lord's Day, the comtee reported to the chh. the result of their interview with sd. Taylor, wh. has just been mentioned.
The question being put, Whether the chh. considered what sd. Taylor had said, viz, that he would no more go to separate meetings, as satisfactory to them.
Voted, that this engagement was satisfactory.
March 3, 1805
Lord's day; the following was taken by an unanimous vote. Whereas Elijah Wait was, at a meeting of the chh. regularly warned, & held Dec. 6, 1804, found guilty of breaking the ninth commandment in uttering a falsehood & whereas at a meeting of the chh. regulatly warned & held Jan. 3, 1805, he was found guilty of violating the seventh commandment in declaring that it was his intention to have criminal intercourse with Eunice Davis & being seen with her in the night immediately after he made this declaration & in exposing his nakedness in an indecent manner, unproked, & whereas sd. Elijah has not made any satisfaction to the chh., but continues inthis obstinacy,
Voted, that the chh. request their pastor to admonish him of the evil & danger of his offences & exhort him to repent ; And in case the first admonition should not have the desired effect, they request the paster to administer a second admonition warning him of his danger; And if sd. E. Wait still continues in his impenitence, they request the pastor to cut him off from his standing in the visible chh. of Christ in this place; They also request
[p.83] the pastor to cite him to attend when these acts shall be performed.
May 26 1805 Lord's day. Samuel Walcot, who had been excommunicated, made a confession of his sins for which he had been rejected. And the chh. voted to accept it & receive him to their fellowship.
