The chh. voted that a public admonition should be given him in two months fr. next Lord's day: warng him against intemperance, & despisģ the authority of Ch. as exercisd in his chh. by not appearg upon a formal & Scriptur summons.

At a chh. - meeting regularly warned & holden at the meeting- house a complaint, signed by Elisha Nash in the name & by order of the chh .- committee, was read for a breach of the 7th commandment by brother Stephen Hopkins; to which sd. brother pleaded, Not guilty. The witnesses in support of the charge, & those employed by brother Hopkins in his defence were put under oath. After a full hearing of the respective testomony, it was moved that a Committee be appointed to report to the Chh. at a future meeting; the motion was carried, & the following brethren were appointed on the committee; viz, W. Bodman Esq., E. Hubbard Esq .. Dea. E. Nash, Perez Graves, Ben. Ludden, win Pomeroy, Moses Nash, & H. Lord. John Graves, Voted to adjourn to Friday, 2 o'clock, next week.


Brother John Graves was chosen by ballot as a member of the Chh .- comittee in the place of Esq. Bodman, resigned.

At a church-meeting regularly warned & holden in the case of Brother Stephen Hopkins, (see precedg page, March 15th & 22d) a confession of his was read, viz. that he had been guilty of an attempt upon the chastity of a young person. -- Whereupon Voted, That accordg to the evidence given under oath in his case at a former meeting, this confession is not sufficient, & cannot be accepted.


Voted, That a Committee be appointed to draw such a confession for him as they think is according to the evidence.


Nov. 14


At a chh.meeting regularly warned & holden, Brother S. Hopkins refusing to make the confession wh. the above committee drafted, he agreed to refer his case to a council, & the chh. voted to unite with him in calling a mutual council. And the followg chhs. were invit" to sit on tis council; viz the chh. in Hatfield, in Westampton, in Amherst 2d parish & in Hadley.


Vot" that the council meet 27th of this month, at 11 o'clock A.M Votd, That Dea. E. Nash, Moses Nash, E. Hubbard Esq. & Dea. Bodman & H. Lord be a Comittee to issue letters missive, provide a place for the entertainment of the council, & lay the necessary evidence bef. council.


The Council met agreeably to the letters missive at the house of E, Hubbard Esq .; And the followg rule of submissn., signed by the Pastor of the chh. & the offendg brother, was laid bef. them, viz., "What confessn. must brother S. Hopkins make as the condition of his being restord to the communion of the church?"

Voted, That brother Verus Patrick have a letter of dismissn. fr. this chh. & of recommendatn. to the chh. in Plainfield.

Jany 12 Voted, That Emily, wife of Sam- Williston, have letter of dismission from this chh. & of recommendation to the church in E. Hampton.


Jan. 26 Lord's day Brother S. Hopkins made the Confession wh. the mutual Council drafted in their Result; & was restored to the communion of the chh. in speial ordinances.


May 4 Voted, That Minerva, wife of Samuel Giddings, have a letter of dismission from this chh. & of recommendation to the chh. in. W. Hampton.


11 Dea. Sylvanus Hubbard was chosen Delegate to a mutual Council in South Hadley, to be holden 20th Ins ..


18 Voted, That Nancy, wife of Bezaleel Frost, have a letter of dismission from this chh. & recommendation to the chh. in Hamilton, N. York.


Aug. 17 Dea. Nash chosen Delegate to the Hamp. Miss. Socty.


Oct. 26 Dea. Elisha Nash chosen Delegate to a mutual Council in Belchertown, to be holden 10th Nov. next; after havg votd to comply with the request of the letter missive fr. the chh. in that town.

Jany 8 At a church-meeting regularly warned & holden at the meeting- house. a complaint was laid before the chh. against brother Elisha Morton for making too free use of spirituous liquor. He was cited to appear; but as he sent word that he should not be able to attend, the chh. Voted to adjourn to Thursday 29th of Jany inst.
