In regard of the many & extraordinary mercyes day of Thanksgiving. wch the Lord hath beene pleased to vouchsafe of late to this Plantacon vz. a plentifull harvest, Ships safely arriued wth psons of spetiall vse & quallity er it is ordered that wednesday the 16th day of this present moneth shalbe kept as a 77 day of publique thanksgiueing through the sewall plantacons. t And whereas it is found by comon experience that the keepeing of Lectures att the ordinary howres nowe observed in the fore-noone to be dyvers wayes priudiciall to the comon good, both in the losse of a whole day & bringing oth' charges & troubles to the place where the Lecture is kept.

83 Comodities to be eold, not exceeding 4ª per shilling prfit. Whereas by order of Court holden in Octobr last the Wages of workemen were reduced to a certainety in regard of the greate extorcon vsed by dyvers psons of little conscience & the greate disorder weh grewe herevpon, by vaine and idle wast of much precious tyme, & expence of those imoderate gaynes in Wyne stronge water & other supfluities, nowe least the honest & conscionable workemen should be wronged or discouraged by excessiue prizes of those comodityes, weh are necessary for their Life & comfort : Wee have thought it very iust & equall, to sett order also therein. Wee doe therefore hereby order, that after publique notice hereof, noe psons shall sell to any of the Inhabitants within this Jurisdiccon, any pvision, cloathinge, Tooles, or other Com- odities above the rate of ffoure pence in a shilling, more then the same cost or might be bought for ready money in England Vpon paine of forfecting the valewe of the thinge solde (Except Cheese weh in regard of the much hazard in bringing, & Wyne, Oyle, Vineger, & stronge Waters weh in regard of leakeing may be solde att such rates (pvided the same be moderate) as the buyer & seller can agree.)


And for Lynnen & other Comodities weh in regard of their close stowage, & small hazard, may be afforded att a Cheap rate, wee doe advise all men to be a rule to themselues, in keepeing a good Conscience assureing them that if any man shall exceede the bounds of moderacon wee shall punish them seuerely .*

It is ordered that Robte Coles for drunkenes by Robt Coles dis- franchisd for drunk- enes, & to weare lettr D. him comitted att Rocksbury shalbe disfranchized, weare about his necke & soe to hange vpon his outward garmt a D: made of redd cloath & sett vpon white, to contynue this for a yeare & not to leave it of att any tyme when hee comes amongst company, vnder the penalty of xls for the first offence & vl the second, & after to be punished by the Court, as they thinke meete, also hee is to weare the D outwards, & is enioyned to appeare att the nexte gendall Court & to contynue there till the Court be ended .*

It was further ordered that ewy man of or above the age of Twenty yeares whoe hath bene or shall hereafter be resident within this Jurisdiccon by the space of Sixe monethes as an householder or Soldier |soiorner| and not infranchised shall take the Oath herevnder written before the Goûn' or Dep- uty Goin' or some Two of the nexte Assistants, whoe shall haue power to convent him for that purpose, and vpon his refuseall, to binde him ouer to the nexte Court of Assistants : where |And | vpon his refuse- all the second tyme hee shalbe banished, except the Court shall see cause to giue him further respitet

[113] It was further ordered that the Constable & [foure] more of the cheife inhabitants of ewy Towne (to be chosen by all the ffree men there, att some meeteing there) with the advise of some one or more of the nexte Assistants shall make a surveyinge of the howses backeside corne feildes moweing ground, & other lands impved or inclosed or graunted by speciall order of ye Court of euery ffree inhabitant (17) Assurance of lands. there, & shall enter the same in a booke (fairely writ- ten in words att lenght & not in ffigures) with the se@all bounds & quantities by the neerest estimacon, & shall deliuer a transcript thereof into the Court within sixe monethes nowe nexte ensueing, & the same soe entered and recorded shalbe a sufficient assurance to ety such ffree inhabitant his & theire heires and Assignes of such estate of inheritance or as they shall haue in any such Howses Lands or Franketenem's.


The like course shalbe taken for assurance of all Howses & Towne- Lotts of all such as shalbe hereaft' Enfranchised, & ety sale or graunt, of such Howses or Lotts as shalbe from time to time entered into ye said booke by the said Constable & foure Inhabitants or their success's, (whoe shal be still supplyed vpon death or removeall,) for which entry the purchaser shall pay sixe pence, & the like sume for a Coppy thereof, Vnder the hands of the said surveyers or Three of them.
