Previous to 1658 the only records of the church remaining (besides pp. 1, 2, and title) are those of Admissions and of Baptisms. In the period 1658-67 the two latter continue together with church votes, chiefly relating to Baptisin. After 1665 these three classes of records are accompanied by another-that of " Renewals of Covenant." Accounts of the church affairs to 1670, including a history of those respecting Baptism are given by Mr. Frothing- bam [Hist. Town, ch. xix .- including extracts of ch. records not in original style] and by Dr. Budington. The former states (p. 187), that " In 1672 the meeting-house was repaired, and cniarged ' by a new building withont the limits' of the house ; and in 1675, the galleries wore rebuilt." The latter states that Rev. Zechariah Symines, second pastor of this church installed (Dec. 22, 1634), died in its ministry, Feb. 4, 1671, at. 71, and that Rev. Thomas Shepard ord. 2d, 13, 1652 (p. 11), died in the same ministry, Dec. 22, 1677, æt. 43.

Mr. Frothingham (Hist. of Charlestown, p. 247) records, that " 1716. The town voted (by paper votes) June 21, 1715, to build a new meeting-house, and that " it should stand as near the old one as can be, or where the old one stands, with such additions of land as shall be needful for it." A committee of eleven were chosen to build it. viz. : Col. John Phil- lips, Capt. Joseph Lynde, Capt. Nathaniel Carey, Capt. Samuel Phipps, Capt. Charles Chambers, Capt. Samuch Frothingham, Mr. Daniel Russell, and Mr. Nathaniel Frothing- ham. The committee were instructed to collect what they could "by voluntary subscrip- tions," in aid of this work. The house was raised June 20, and used for public worship August 5. The committee reported, May 20, 1717, that the house was finished; the co-t £1899. 3. 10, and that the contributions amounted to £1925. 3. 0. It was seventy-two feet long, fifty-two feet wide, and had two galleries."
