To the bitizme of Hawow : - By a petition to the Selectmen, signed by a number of taxpayers, and voters of the town, there was called a special Town hosting which was Fuld Youmler 6th, 1914, at 2 P.M., to consider the question of a water supply for Harrow for five and domestic service.

By a large majority vote, a committe, fin was appointed to investigate the matter in reference to a suitable supply and to report at al future wasting. A sum of $150,00 was appropriated for the use of the committee to defray the capeneed of the investigation. By a sugg stich from the office of the State Board of Health, a larger sum was asked for, namely: 500.00. While the sum granted, was in- sufficient to conduct the investigation as thoroughly and as far as the committee, desired, they organized with FE. Having Exhausted the appropriation granted to the committee, the contracting company, with this knowledge before them, wished to continue so as to obtain further and better results, if possible, from other wille and tests. Forging weather coming on, work was suspended. aring to a severe, drought in 1914, a petition signed by about 40 citizens, was presented to the legislature of 115 requesting that an act be passed which would give the town authority to supply itself, and inhabitants with water.

your committee, deerned in for the financial interests of the town to consider probable sources of water near Coming fond, and, on land of Mr. Bridges, with the new of using a shorter line of fire from the pumpe to the general, distributing mains.

The proposed system contemplates the use of 10," 8", 6" with possibly smaller jupes in certain localities, having in view , at all times, necess. any fire protection. The length of distributing mand will he, approximately nine miles. Competent Engineers, advice that a number of will be driven so that the minimum yield from them ba not less than 600 to 700 gallons per minute for a population Equaling that Havew. This quanity of water should be handled by two pumping units of 300, or 350 gallons each.

There units to deliver the water into a recevoir, or standpipe holding , about 450,000 gallons. This quantity of water burning stored in the reservoir, due consideration having been given to the static head of water on the fiche line, would give an ample supply, always, ow hand, for use in case of fire in Either precinct.

The standard Jumping mit of 25 years ago consisted of steam boiler, a compound direct acting pump with independent un Jump and condenser. Modern practice, Except for large capacities, has practically adopted is funny of the triplex

or other type of power pumpe driven by Electric motor or oil origine ! The first cost of an electric motor driven Jumps ing unit will be much less than the cost of au oil Engine dun unit.

Estimates submitted as to the case of Electric current need to jump 1000 gallons of water is given, as 3 cents, while that given for the cost of oil per 1000 gallons pumped is I'4 certo; these Estimates made on the basis of 50,000, gallows used for day, and pumping at the rate of 250 gallons per minute against a dynamic head of 300 ach, showed the dynamic head be less Than 300 fort, then the coat would be reduced slightly. It is quite probable that 100,000 jablone per day wit Is used during the Summer season. Estimates haw brow isceund by the committee from two competent Engineers at 92,000, and 48, 643. you a water works system of ample capacity for the town, as shown vy blue print to wissen attention is called.

It is the opinion of the committee that the work can be completed within the estimate.

It is highly probable that 4% bonds can be sold on a 3 90 basis of about 101, that is at a forsmums of $10.00 for bovid , approximately . "The fremum would and must be used toward paying off the first los of bonds when due for payment,

The committee wish to express their appreciation and to thank the citizens who financially and in other ways generously aided the committee while carrying on the words.
