CHICOPEE DIRECTORY.
PREFACE TO THE CHICOPEE DIRECTORY.
THE former connection, and present business rela- tions existing between the city of Springfield, and town of Chicopee, render the incorporation of a Directory of the two places eminently proper and desirable. With this view, the publisher has secured the services of Mr. E. F. BROWN, of Chicopee, and H. H. JEWELL of Chicopee Falls, and through them, has prepared, at considerable labor and expense, a new, and it is believed full and accurate Directory of the town of Chicopee, embracing Cabotville and Chicopee Falls, with complete lists of Town Officers, Manufac- turing Corporations, Banks, &c. It was the intention also of the publisher to have added a new Map of the town, but unexpected obstacles have necessarily de- layed its execution until another year.
200
PREFACE .
In respect to the numbering of the streets, in the Directory, it is to be noticed :- That the several Man- ufacturing Companies number separately and distinctly the houses of each corporation-consequently the res- idence of those occupying these houses, are indicated by both the number and corporation to which they belong, without reference to the street on which they are located. The numbering in Cabot, Perkins, and Dwight streets proper, consequently, will commence on South side of Exchange street. Exchange street has been numbered from Leavitt's corner to Dwight street, making 37 Stores on South side of said street, using half numbers for second stories ard basements. As there are no vacant lots this numbering may be considered permanent, and the residents of that street have decided to affix numbers to each store.

AMES'S MANUFACTURING COMPANY.
The Ames' Manufacturing Company's works, are situated in this village, and are quite extensive. They are engaged in the manufacture of MACHINERY, in all its varieties, and can fit up a Cotton Factory or Machine Shop with every requisite, from the Water Wheel to the Polishing Wheel for giving the last finishing touch. They have also connected with their works, a large FOUNDRY, in which is made every variety of iron and brass castings, also one in which they cast most beau- tiful cannon for the government of the United States, Sovereign States, individuals, and for ships use. Also BRONZE STATUARY of every description. This last is a new branch of manufacture, not only by them, but in this country, and has proved quite successful in Every particular.
The SWORDS manufactured by this Company for the United States government, for presentation, and for individuals, have already acquired a world wide re- nown. Within the last two years, there has been add- ed to this department the manufacture of SILVER, GOLD and PLATED WARE, and although this business has never before been attempted in this country, obstacles have been overcome, and many of the fashiona- ble hotels in our cities, and the ocean and river steam- ers, have availed themselves of the opportunity of pro- curing articles of American manufacture, superior not only for ornament, but for utility.
Visitors are at all times made welcome to pass through the establishment, and a visit to their exten- sive Show Room, well repays one for their time and trouble.
