UNION MUTUAL Life Insurance Company .
OF MAINE.
DIRECTORS' OFFICE, No. 27 Court Street, Boston, (Daily Advertiser Building.)
" A company which enjoys so much distinction, in the list of our foremost few best companies, as the UNION MUTUAL, needs scarcely any commendation other than that which is constantly exhibited in the continued record of its usefulness. But its last annual report attracts attention to a fewv importaut points, which cannot be too diligently set be- fore the public mind in these days of a feverish competition which is straining the resources of so many companies. We find, for instance, that the Union Mutual received last year $1,707,821, while its management expenses were only $225,000. Its interest receipts exceeded its death losses by forty thousand dollars, and the amount distributed to policy-holders as dividends was about double what it paid for losses."- THE SPECTATOR, March, 1870.
The Assets of the Union Mutual Life, 'on the 1st of January, 1871, were $5,295,233.27
Its Total Liabilities, (according to the standard of the Massa- chusetts Insurance Department), on the same date,
were $4,652,301.36 Its Surplus, on the same date, was . 642,931.91
For every one hundred dollars owed by the Company on that date, it had one hundred and twenty-three dollars in clean assets.
The Percentage of Expenses to total income, for the year 1870, was
. $12.81
Claims paid to Income was 14.65
During the year 1870 this Company issued 4612 Policies, insuring $11,000,000 ; the whole number of Policies in force on the 31st of Dec. 1870, was 15,852, insuring over Thirty-Six Million dollars.
