SAFES.
The Best in the World.
DARING ATTEMPT OF BURGLARS.
713 Broadway, New York, Jan. 4, 1871.
AMERICAN STEAM SAFE COMPANY.
Gentlemen :- The Fire and Burglar-Proof Safe which we purchased of you one year ago, snstalned a severe trial at the hands of burglars on the night of the 1st inst. The evidences of the great skill and superior talent on the part of the thieves is fully shown in the finely- wrought tools left behind them, as also by the method pursued in thelr efforts to relleve us of our valuables. The outer or Fire-Proof Safe was badly mutliated, showing the effect of cutters, jinmies, wedges, etc., but the imer Burglar-Proof Chest of Welded Steel and Iron, secured by Sargent's Bank Lock, proved to be superlor to their skill and tools, fully vindica- ting your clalms as to its burglar-proof capacity. We can but rejoice over the failure of the " cracskmen " and we cheerfully give this testimony concerning the character of your work. Yours truly, E. P. DUTTON & CO.
ANOTHER TEST BY BURGLARS.
AMERICAN STEAM SAFE COMPANY.
Lancaster National Bank, Lancaster, Mass. Oct. 15, 1869.
Gentlemen :- Our Bank Building was entered by burglars last night and some damage was done; but I am happy to state that the massive " Welded Steel and Iron " Door and " Sargent " Lock which you recently furnished us prevented the burglars entering the vault. The excellence of this work left no chance for the robbers to cut, wedge, pry or blow open the door or get through the lock, and doubtless saved us from a heavy loss. We are very thankful this morning that we added this New Door to our security, and are confident that with the Inner Door and strong Burglar-Proof Safe inside the vault it will continue to afford us allneeded protection against burglars. Very respectfully yours, JACOB FISHER, President.
ANOTHER TRIUMPH FOR THE STEAM SAFE.
AMERICAN STEAM SAFE COMPANY, 300 Broadway, New York :
New York, Nov. 24, 1870.
Gentlemen,-The No. 0 Double-door Steam Safe, purchased of you in November, 1868, was exposed to the severe fire In the building No. 61 Broadway, on the 20th of this month, and fully sustained the reputation it has made as the best fire proof Safe in the world. In addl- tion to the peculiar protection afforded by your system of steam tubes, the benefits arising from the " cut off" or detachment of metals in the frames and jambs around the door, by which heat is prevented from entering by continnance of metal, were finely Illustrated. I amfully persnaded that the Safes of your mannfacture ARE IN ALL RESPECTS WOR- THY THE CONFIDENCE OF BUSINESS MEN. F. B. SPINOLA.
AGAIN TRIUMPHANT.
NASHUA, N. H. April 22, 1870.
AMERICAN STEAM SAFE COMPANY ;
Gentlemen, -The Steam Safe you sold us passed triumphantly through the great fire here on the 16th inst. In one of the largest buildings burned it was severely exposed till the floor gave way. when it fell into the cellar amidst burning timber, oils, varnish, rosin, and other combustible material. and remalned in the most intense heat for hours. When opened its contents were in perfect condition, showing no effects of the fire whatever. The caps melted off the sealed water vessels. as designed, letting the steam around the book-case, thus keeping out the heat; and though the Safe overturned in falling, the water was not spilled, and only a part of it was evaporated, showing a reserved power that would have withstood the exposure much longer. The Safe proved itself In the fire what you represented it to be, operating to our entire satisfaction, and to the surprise and gratification of those who saw it opened. You will please send us another like it, and oblige, Truly, Yours, BARR & CO.

Eye, Ear, Throat, and Lungs.
Office Hours from 10 to 4.
SPECIAL NOTICE.
Previous to locating in Boston, DR. C. for five years (with the exception of a few weeks' prac- tice in Salem), confined his practice to a few of the leading cities of Maine; but many and earnest solicitations from sufferers in Massachusetts and neighboring States, have induced him to locate in Boston, which is so situated as to be accessible from any portion of New England. The references below are genuine and received not from a distance, but from where they can be easily investigated, by writing or otherwise, as the names and addresses are given in fuil. Hundreds of others can be seen at Dr. C.'s Consulting Rooms, 147 Tremont Street. Residence, 15 Rollins Street.
Testimonial of Thomas Prince, Esq. of Boston.
BOSTON, Dec. 7, 1870.
W. H. CARPENTER, M. D .:- My Dear Sir: I write this to acknowledge your skill and kind- ness in treathnig my son for Otorrhea or Dis- charge and ulcerated condition of the ear, result- ing from scarlet fever, which had become chi onic aud failed to yield to treatment until it came under your care, when after about three montiis it was restored to health. I shall not fail to rec- ommend others similarly afflicted to apply to von. You are at liberty to publish this if it will be of service to you.
Very Respectfully yours, THOMAS PRINCE. No. 2 Rollins street.
Testimonial of Capt. Pousland of Salem.
SALEM, Jan. 5, 1870.
It affords me great satisfaction to testify to the success of Dr. Carpenter in the treatment of C'atarrh, and to inform all sufferers from that terrible disease there is hope for them.
I was attacked with Chronle Catarrh thirty years ago, and it increased until it pervaded my whole system. I became very deaf - my eyes were weak and inflamed, and discharged water so frequently that I was unable to read without a handkerchief in my hand to constantly wipe the tears away, My throat was full of matter morn- ings, and required an hour's exertion of hawking and expectorating to clear it; my nostrils were clogged with nicous, which would frequently become dry, very annoying and difficult to re- move wlille my head was dull and disagreeable.
