REPORT OF THE MERRIMAC BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE

To the Citizens of the Town of Merrimac :

The members elected to the Board of Public Welfare organized as follows:

Hazen M. Emery Chairman :

Ellen M. Wallace

Clerk

Harriett F. Bigelow Other Member

Owing to the continued increase in unemployment during the past year it was impossible for us to stay within our appropriation of $6,000.00 making it neces- sary for us to ask for a transfer to our Department of $3,000.00 at the Special Town Meeting held November- 28, 1949.

34

ANNUAL REPORT

As the employment situation does not seem to be any better at the moment we have requested an appropriation of $10,000.00 for the year 1950.

The case load in our Aid to Dependent Children Department will remain about the same, so we have asked for the same appropriation as in 1949.

Due to the fact that the Federal Government has made it manditory for us to have a full time Civil Service worker in our Old Age Assistance and Aid to Dependent Children Departments we have decided to do away with our Bureau of Old Age Assistance which work will be handled by our new Agent Mrs. Harriett F. Bigelow and supervised by the Board of Public Welfare.

We wish to thank the Federal, State and Local de- partments for their continued assistance and co-opera- tion during the past year.

Respectfully submitted,

HAZEN M. EMERY,

ELLEN M. WALLACE,

HARRIETT F. BIGELOW,
