TOWN WARRANT.


COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS.


Worcester, ss.


To either constable of the town of Milford, in said county,


Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth aforesaid, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of said town, qualitied by law to vote in elections aud in town affairs to meet at the Town Hall, in said town, on Monday, the sixth day of March, A. D. 1916, punctually at 5 45 o'clock in the forenoon, to act upon the following articles, namely :-


(The polls may be closed at four o'clock in the afternoon on said day of meeting )


Article 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting,

Article 2. To choose all necessary town officers, a town clerk, town treasurer, tax collector, auditor. three selectmen, (for one year), one assessor, (three years), three overseers of the poor, (one year), one sewer commissioner, (three years), two members of the school committee, (three years), one mem- ber of the board of health, (three years), two trustees of pub- lic library, (three years), two trustees of Vernon Grove ceme- tery, (three years), one park commissioner, (three years), and five constables, (one year), to be voted for on ballots prepared and furnished in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 835, Acts of 1913, and Acts in amendment thereto. Also upon said ballots the voters shall give in their votes. "Yes" or "No" in answer to the following question :


"Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating li- quors in this town ?"


Article 3. To hear and act upon the reports of the select-

men, overseers of the poor, school committee, treasurer, tax collector, auditor, town clerk, sewer commissioners, trustees of public library, trustees of Vernon Grove cemetery, park commissioners, town solicitor, assessors, engineers of the fire department, chief ( f police, board of health, inspector of ani- mals, sealer of weights and measures, and any other officers or committees of said town.


Article 4. To raise and appropriate such sum or sums of money as may be necessary to defray town expenses for the municipal year ending December 31, 1916.


Article 5. To determine when all taxes for the year 1916 shall be due and payable, the time from which interest on un- paid taxes of said year shall be charged, and the compensation of the collector of taxes for the year ensuing.


Article 6. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of One Hundred and Sixty-five Dollars ($165.00) towards defraying the expenses of Memorial Day.


Article 7. To see if the town will vote to authorize the selectmen to take charge of all legal proceedings for or against the town.


Article 8. To see if the town will authorize the select- men to contract for its street lighting, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 9. To see if the town will vote to authorize the selectmen to contract with the Milford Water Co. for its water supply, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 10. To see what action shall be taken to create a town planning board, in conformity with the requirements of Chapter 494 of the Acts of 1913, to choose the members there- of, and to act in any manner in relation thereto.


Article 11. To see if the town will vote to locate a hy- drant for the purpose of furnishing better protection to the property of the Milford & Uxbridge Street Railway Company at its power station, and other property in the vicinity, raise

and appropiate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 12. To see if the town will vote to locate a fire alarm box at the junction of Main, Elm and Prospect Streets, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 13. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap. propriate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for the purpose of completing the tool-house at Vernon Grove Ceme- tery, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 14. To see what action the town will take to raise and apppropriate the sum of Five Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($550.00) the George Washington Memorial Building, Washington, D. C.


Article 15. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) for the purpose of rebuilding Congress street, beginning at the junction of Fountain Street, and extending in a northerly di- rection, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 16. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars (8500.00) for play- ground supervision and maintenance, under the direction of the selectmen, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 17. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($1000.00) for the purpose of rebuilding West Street, from Congress Street to a point at or near Quinlan Street, or take any action in rela- tion thereto.


Article 18. To see if the town will vote to locate a hy- drant on Beach Street Extension, at or near the end of said street, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any ac- tion in relation thereto.


Article 19. To see if the town will vote to locate a hy-

drant on Pond Street, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 20. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3000.00) for the purpose of rebuilding Congress Street, from Exchange Street and continuing in a northerly direction, or take any ac- tion in relation thereto.


Article 21. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- priate the sum of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800.00) for the purpose of cleaning out Charles River, from the B. & A R R. bridge to a point below the Archer Rubber Company factory, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 22. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate such sum or sums of money as may be necessary to defray the premium on the tax collector's bond.


Article 23. To see if the town will vote to construct' purchase, or lease and maintain within its limits a plant for the manufacture or distribution of electricity for furnishing light for municipal use, or light, heat, or power for its inhabi- tants according to the provisions of Chapter 742 of the lets of Nineteen hundred and fourteen, and any acts in amendment thereof, or take any action in relation thereto. 1.


Article 24. To see if the town will vote to appoint a committee to petition the Legislature for a special act ena- bling the further borrowing of money outside the debt limit for the purpose of completing and constructing its sewers, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 25. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap . propriate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for the purpose of maintaining one or more dental dispensaries, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 26. To see if the town will vote to purchase a motor combination fire truck, aud a tractor for the ladder

truck, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any ac- tion in relation thereto.


Article 27. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($1000.00) to re- build Purchase Street from Wales Street, south, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 28. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1000.00) for the repair of Grant Street, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 29. To see if the town will vote to accept the . provisions of Section 402, Chapter 835, Acts of 1913, which relates to the election of a highway surveyor, or take any ac- tion in relation thereto.


Article 30. To see if the town will vote to take any ac- tion relative to the carrying out of the provisions of Chapter 381, Acts of 1905, which applies to assessments on owners of land for the suppression of gypsy and brown tail moths.


Article 31. To see if the town will vote to construct a gravel sidewalk with cobble stone curb on the easterly side of South Main Street, from the corner of Fruit Street to the Taft Estate, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any ac- tion in relation thereto.


Article 32. To see if the town will vote to construct a sidewalk or sidewalks on North Street, raise and appropriate the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500,00) for said purpose or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 33. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of Thirty-two Hundred Dollars (33,200 00) for the purpose of purchasing a road roller, or take any action in, relation thereto.


And you are hereby directed to serve this warrant by posting up attested copies thereof at each of the public meet- ing houses and at the post-office in said town; also cause at- tested copies to be published in The Milford Daily News, Mil-

ford Daily Journal and Milford Gazette, newspapers published in said town, two Sabbaths at least before the time set for said meeting.


Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the clerk of said town, at the time of meeting aforesaid.
