Milford, May 9, 1928.


In pursuance to the foregoing warrant the inhabitants of the town of Milford, qnahfied by law to vote in elections and in town affairs, met in lowu Hall in said town on Wednesday, the ninth day of May, A. D. 1928, punctually at eight o'clock in the evening, and were called to order by the Town Clerk, who read the warrant and the officer's return thereon.


Under Article 1. The meeting made choice of John T. McLoughlin as moderator, the vote being unanimous.


Article 2. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of Seven Hundred Fifty Dollars ($750 00) for the purpose of in- stalling thirty (30) additional hydrants for furnishing water for fire purposes, to be located where the Selectmen and En- gineers of the Fire Department may, in their judgment, de- termine.


Voted: To dissolve the warrant.

MEETING TO FILL VACANCY ON BOARD OF HEALTH.

At a joint meeting of the Board of Health and the Select- men held on the above date for the purpose of filling a vacan- cy on the Board of Health caused by the resignation of Fran- cis H. Lally, the said Board of Health and Selectmen proceed- ed as follows:


John E Higgiston, Chairman of the Selectmen, was chosen as Chairman.


Dennis J. Sullivan, Town Clerk, was chosen as Secretary.


William J. Clarke was unanimously chosen as member of the Board of Health, receiving five votes.

To either Constable of the town of Milford, in said Country,


Greeting:


In the name of the Commonwealth aforesaid, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of said town, qualified by law to vote in elections and in town affairs to meet at the Town Hall in said town, on Wednesday, the 24th day of October, A. D. 1922, punctu ally at eight o'clock, in the evening to act upon the following articles namely:


Article 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.


Article 2. To see if the town will vote to indemnify the Commonwealth of Massachusetts against any and all claims for land, grade and drainage damages which may be caused by or result from the laying out, alteration, construction or reconstruction of the state highway known as East Main Street, from the Holliston line to its southerly end at the road

leading to West Medway, or any section or relocation thereof, and will authorize the Board of Selectmen to sign an indem. nity agreement therefor in behalf of the town, and make an appropriation therefor, or take any other action, with re- spect thereto.


Article 3. To see if the town will vote to accept and al- low the report of the Selectmen on the laying out of Harris Avenue, so-called.


Article 4. To see if the town will vote to appoint a-con- mittee to consider the advisability of the town purchasing Cedar Swamp Pond, said committee to report at a future town meeting, or take any action in relation thereto.


And you are hereby directed to serve this warrant by posting up attested copies thereof at each of the Public Meet- ing Houses and at the Post Office in said town, also cause an attested copy to be published in the Milford Daily News, a newspaper published in said Town, Two Sabbaths at least before the time set for said meeting.

LAW PROPOSED BY INITIATIVE PETITION.


Shall the proposed law which provides that it shall be lawful in any city which accepts the act by vote of its city council and in any town which accepts the act by vote of its inhabitants, to take part in or witness any athletic outdoor sport or game, except horse racing, automobile racing, boxing or hunting with firearms, on the Lord's Day between 2 and 6 P. M .; that such sports or games shall take place on such play- grounds, parks, or other places as may be designated in a li- cense issued by certain licensing authorities; that no sport or game shall be permitted in a place other than a public play - ground or park within one thousand feet of any regular place of worship; that the charging of admission fees or the taking of collections or the receiving of remuneration by any person in charge of or participating in any such sport or game shall not be prohibited; that the license may be revoked; and that in cities and towns in which amateur sports or games are per- mitted under existing law such amateur sports or games may be held until the proposed law is accepted or the provisions of the existing law fail of acceptance on resubmission to the peo- ple, which law was disapproved in the Senate by a vote of 9 in the affirmative and 22 in the negative, and in the House of Representatives by a vote of 93 in the affirmative and 110 in the negative, be approved? Yes-No -.

Shall the Senator from this district be instructed to vote for a resolution requesting Congress to take action for the re- peal of the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, known as the prohibition amendment?

I). 1928, punctually at 5.45 o'clock in the forenoon, and were called to order by John E. Higgiston, Chairman of the Selectmen, presiding election officer.

In accordance with the provisions of Chapter 54, General Laws of Massachusetts, and Acts in Amendment thereto, sealed packages said to contain 6428 official ballots, specimen ballots, cards of instructions, penalty cards, and copies of Law Proposed by Initiative Petition, and copies of Question of Pub- lic Policy were delivered to Jobn E. Higgiston, presiding elec- tion officer. The seals were broken and the ballots delivered to the ballot clerks.


Cards of instructions, penalty cards, and copies of Law Proposed by Initiative Petition, and copies of Question of Public Policy were posted in each marking compartment and outside the rail.

Harold K. Bullard, Dominick J. Lang, J. Roy Kerr, Wil- liam E. Moore, tellers appointed to check voting lists, and Gilbert C. Eastman and George V. Larkin, ballot clerks, and Harry C. Tilden and Michael J. Collins, deputy ballot clerks were sworn to a faithful performance of their duties by the town clerk, all having been appointed by the selectmen.

Due notice having been given, the polls were declared closed at eight o'clock P. M.


During the voting the ballot box was opened by unani- nous consent of the presiding election officer and the town clerk, six times for the purpose of taking out, sorting and counting the ballots, first at 8.15 o'clock A. M., when it regis- tered 800, then at 10.15 o'clock A. M. when it registered 1600, then at 12.40 o'clock P. M. when it registered 2540, then at 2.30 o'clock P. M. when it registered 3302, then at 5.15 o'clock p. M when it registered 4102, then at 6.55 o'clock p. M. when it registered 5005, then at the close of the polls, 8 o'clock P. M. when it registered 5354.


There were 120 ballots received from absentee voters

which were deposited in the ballot box, which made the total number of billoots registered on the ballot box 5474.


The ballot box count agreed with the number of names checked on the voting lists at the polls and at the tables of the ballot clerks.


The names of those on the lists of voters which were checked and audibly counted were found to be 5474.

Mills, John D. Cronan, Ku- dolph Introini, J. Joseph Hickey, tellers appointed by the selectmen, were sworn to a faithful performance by the town clerk.


The tellers having canvassed the votes given in and found the number of ballots cast to be 5474, 120 of which were bal- lots of absentee voters, the same having been sorted and counted, declaration thereof was made in open meeting, and recorded as follows:


The result was announced at 2.37 o'clock A. M. Novem- ber 7 1928.
