ALARMS, FIRES, LOSSES.
There were 23 alarms of fire the past year of which 2 were false. There were 6 fires that no alarm was given. The value of property is as follows : Buildings, $17,220. Value of con- tents, $11,700. Loss on buildings, $3,934. ; contents, $6,976.
RECOMMENDATIONS.
We desire to call the attention of the Town to the fact that we need additional ladders in the North and East districts. The · ladder truck in the North district should be replaced by a new truck as the one located there has been in use since the Town organized a Fire Department and it is getting beyond its use- fulness. In the East district we have but three small ladders and in case of a fair size fire assistance has to be called from the other districts-thus giving fires out of reach of small lad- ders a chance to make great headway. We believe that the Town is taking too much risk in this district and that the prop- erty located there should have better protection.
73
APPROPRIATION RECOMMENDED.
As the number of alarms seems to be increasing each year the expenses are also increased thereby. I recommend the fol- lowing appropriations : For pay of firemen, stewards, engineers and superintendent of fire alarm, $1,500. General expenses, -$800. Also an appropriation for at least one ladder truck.
Respectfully submitted,
JEREMIAH F. GALLIVAN, Chief.
