WARRANT FOR TOWN MEETING.
Norfolk, SS. To either of the Constables of the Town of Braintree: Greeting :-
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Braintree, on Tuesday, the ninth day of January, 1900, at seven and one-half o'clock in the evening, to act ou the following articles, namely :-
Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meet- ing.
Art. 2. To see if the town will appropriate money for en- larging its electric plant, and authorize the raising of the money by the issuing of town notes and determine the par- ticulars of such notes.
Art. 3. To see if the town will appropriate money for building a new schoolhouse and authorize the raising of the money by the issuing of town notes and determine the particu- lars of such notes.

You are to give notice of this meeting by posting up true and attested copies of this Warrant in not less than nine pub- lic places in this town, seven days at least before the time of said meeting and by publishing the same once in the Braintree Bee.
Hereof fail not and make return of this Warrant with your doings thereon to the Town Clerk before the time of said meeting.

The town met in accordance with the foregoing warrant at the time and place designated. The meeting was called to order and the warrant read by the Town Clerk.
Article 1. Upon ballot with the use of the check list Mr. F. A. Hobart was elected Moderator and sworn by the Town Clerk.
Art. 2. Voted, the sum of twenty-six thousand dollars ($26,000), is hereby appropriated for enlarging the Town's electric plant, and the Town's Treasurer is hereby authorized to raise said money by issuing under the direction of the Selectmen ten (10) Town notes aggregating twenty-six thou- sand dollars ($26,000). Said notes to be dated January 10th, 1900, to bear interest at the rate of 32 per cent. per annum, payable semi-annually, March first and September first, and to be for the following amounts payable on September first in the following years, namely: $1000 in 1900, $500 in 1901, $2000 in each of 1902, 1903, and 1904, $3400 in 1905, $3900

in each of 1906, 1907 and 1908, and $3400 in 1909. And the provisions of this vote are to be taken as substituted, for the provisions of the vote passed under Article 9 of the Town Meeting of July 7, 1899, and for the provisions of the vote passed under Article 2 of the Town Meeting of September 27, 1899.
The selectmen are hereby instructed to raise by taxation each year as named above a sum sufficient to pay each note as it falls due, together with the amount of accrued interest on each note remaining unpaid. The foregoing vote was taken by yea and nay vote with the use of the check list, the number of ballots cast was fifteen and they were all yes.
Art. 3. Voted, by ballot with the use of the check list; the sum of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) is hereby appro- priated for building a new schoolhouse, and the Town Treas- urer is hereby authorized to raise said money by issuing under the direction of the Selectmen ten (10) Town notes aggregat- ing fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) said notes to be dated January 10, 1900, to bear interest at the rate of 3} per cent. per annum, payable semi-annually, March first and September first, and to be for the following amounts payable on Sep- tember first in the following years, namely $1000 in 1900, $500 in 1901; $1000 in each of 1902, 1903 and 1904; $2000 in each of 1905, 1906, 1907 and 1908; $2500 in 1909. And the provi- sions of this vote are to be taken as substituted for the pro- visions of the vote passed under Article 4 of the Town Meet- ing of June 15, 1899. The Selectmen are hereby instructed to raise by taxation each year as named above a sum sufficient to pay each note as it falls due, together with the accrued interest on each note remaining unpaid.
The foregoing vote was passed by more than a two-thirds vete.
Voted, that this meeting be dissolved.

D., 1900, at seven and one-half o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles, namely :
Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meet- ing
Art. 2. To see if the Town will vote to increase the num- ber of its Selectmen, Assessors, and Overseers of the Poor to five.
Art. 3. To see if the Town will vote to elect its Selectmen, Assessors, and Overseers of the Poor in the following man- ner, namely: If the number fixed by the Town is three, it shall at the next annual meeting elect one for the term of one year, one for two years and one for three years; if the number fixed by the Town is five, it shall at its next annual meeting elect one for the term of one year, two for the term of two years and two for the term of three years.
Art. 4. To see if the Town will vote to adopt the provisions of Section 335 of the Acts of 1898, Chapter 548.
Art. 5. To see if the Town will vote to fix the number of its Assessors at four and to elect such Assessors at the next annual meeting in the following manner, namely: · Two As- sessors for the term of one year and two Assessors for the term of two years.
Art. 6. To choose any Committee and to hear the report of any Committee.

Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in Town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Braintree, on Monday, the fifth day of March, A. D., 1900, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, to, act on the following articles, namely :
Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meet- ing.
Art. 2. To hear the report of the several Town Officers and act thereon.
Art. 3. To determine the manner of repairing the high- ways, sidewalks and bridges the ensuing year.
Art. 4. To choose all necessary Town Officers for the en- suing year; also, to vote "Yes" or "No" on the following- question, namely: "Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this Town?" Under this article the polls will be kept open until one o'clock p. m.
Art. 5. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of a majority of the Board of Selectmen, to borrow money in anticipation of taxes and issue notes of the Town therefor.
Art. 6. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as. may be necessary to defray the expenses of the Town for the- ensuing year.
Art. 7. To see if the Town will accept the jury list as pre- pared by the Selectmen.
Art. 8. To see if the Town will vote to charge interest on. all unpaid taxes after a certain date.
Art. 9. To see if the Town will vote an appropriation to. Post 87, G. A. R., to assist in defraying the expenses of mem -. orial services on Memorial Day.

Art. 14. To elect a Tree Warden, as provided by Chapter 330 of the Acts of the Legislature of 1899, and make such appropriation for his services as the Town may determine.
Art. 15. To see if the Town will continue to pay for the- bond of its Treasurer.
Art. 16. To see if the Town will vote an appropriation for Hydrant Service.
Art. 17. To appropriate a sum of money for the Water- Loan Sinking Fund.

Art. 19. To appropriate a sum of money to convey pupils. to and from the public schools.
Art. 20. To see if the Town will vote to continue its night police and appropriate money for the same.
Art. 21. To make such appropriations as may be necessary to operate the Electric Light System.
Art. 22. To appropriate such sums of money as may be- necessary for the payment of notes that become due in the year 1900.

To see if the Town will authorize the exclusive use of the Young Odorless Excavating Pump and apparatus. for cleaning cesspools and vaults, provided some person, ac- ceptable to the Board of Health, shall provide himself with necessary equipment and rights to use the same without ex- pense to the Town.
Art. 24. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to pave the gutters on Hollis avenue, Mount Vernon

:avenue and West street, or make a general appropriation for paving gutters.
Art. 25. To see if the Town will choose a committee to re- vise the By-Laws of the Town or to make a new code of By- Laws.
Art. 26. To see if the Town will choose a Board of Health or take any action relating to the same.
Art. 27. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to build a crushed stone road and place curbstone in Holbrook avenue.
Art. 28. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money to build drains in River street.
Art. 29. To see if the Town will accept the laying out as a Town way the road leading from Washington street through land of A. S. Pennock & Sons to a point on Hancock street, as made by the Selectmen, and appropriate a sum of money to grade the same.
Art. 30. To see if the Town will accept the laying out, as a Town way, of Bowditch street, so called, as made by the Selectmen, and appropriate a sum of money to build the same.
Art. 31. To see if the Town will accept the laying out of Safford street so called, also a portion of Morton street and a portion of Forrest street as Town ways, as made by the Se- lectmen.
Art. 32. To see what action the Town will take in relation to watering streets.
Art. 33. To see what action the Town will take in relation to suppressing the sale of intoxicating liquors.
Art. 34. To see if the Town will elect a Board of Electric Light Commissioners as provided by Section 10 of Chapter 454 of the Acts of the Legislature of 1893.
Art. 35. To see if the Town will choose a separate Board of Assessors.

Mr. A. F. Hollis was appointed to check the list and was sworn.
Article 1. Taken up, proceeded to ballot for a Moderator with the use of the check list. John H. Simmons, Henry M. Storm and Charles H. Hayward were appointed tellers to. count the vote for Moderator, and were sworn. The follow- ing was the result of the ballot: Wallace Wilson, 39; F. A .. Hobart, 47; Blank, 1. Mr. F. A. Hobart declared elected and sworn.
Art. 3. Voted, That the repairs of highways, bridges and. sidewalks be done under the direction of the Board of Sur- veyors of Highways.
Art. 4. Voted, To proceed to the election of a Town Clerk,. a Town Treasurer, Three Selectmen who shall also be As- sessors, Overseers of the Poor and Highway Surveyors, one Water Commissioner and Commissioner of Sinking Funds for three (3) years, two members of the General School Commit- tee for three (3) years, three Auditors, one Trustee of the-

Thayer Public Library for one (1) year to fill vacancy, three Fence Viewers and sixteen Constables, all on one ballot. Also to vote "Yes" or "No" on the following question, as required by Chapter 54 of the Acts of 1881, namely: Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this Town?
The Moderator appointed Mr. A. W. Hollis to check the list: Mr. Henry W. Gore, Jr., to take charge of the ballot box; Messrs. F. W. Crooker, William J. Orr, S. F. Pratt, John H. Simmons and Eben Prescott as tellers, all of whom were sworn. Mr. Robert E. Belcher was appointed to have charge of the ballots relating to liquor license.
Voted, That after the declaration of the result of the ballot for Town Officers, the administration of the oaths of office by the Moderator and the appointment of such committees as may be ordered, the Moderator shall declare this meeting ad- journed to Wednesday, March 14, 1900, at 7.30 o'clock p. m.
Voted, That a committee of fifteen be appointed by the chair to consider all articles in the warrant calling for expend- itures of money ; that no person having charge of any depart- ment or any Town Officer shall be appointed on said com- mittee.
Moderator appointed Messrs. Albert E. Avery (chairman), C. H. Hobart, P. C. Spring, Joel F. Sheppard, Wm. A. Mc- Kean, Henry M. Storms, Amasa S. Thayer, Charles B. Cum- mings. John Cavanagh, William E. Wilde, Aubrey Hilliard, Hartley L. White, George H. Arnold, F. Eugene Dyer and Nathaniel F. Hunt as that committee. Mr. A. S. Thayer de- clined and George W. Stevens was appointed. The follow- ing resolutions were offered by Mr. John Kelley, and unani- mously adopted :--
Whereas, Mr. Edward W. Hunt, representative from this district, has introduced a bill in the Legislature to relieve the Town of Braintree of the expense of maintaining the draw- bridge on Quincy avenue and that the Counties of Norfolk and Plymouth be made to pay for the same.
Resolved, That inasmuch as a large share of the use of said bridge is by people other than residents of Braintree; that the maintenance of said bridge is an injustice to the taxpayers of the Town of Braintree.

Resolved, That the Town, now in Town Meeting assem- bled, do appoint a committee of five to appear before the Legislative Committee having charge of the matter and urge the presenting of the said bill to the House, said committee to have the right to employ counsel if necessary. And the Board of Selectmen are hereby instructed to appear before the said Legislative Committee and do all in their power for said meas- ure. -
In accordance with the foregoing resolutions, the Moder- ator appointed Messrs. John Kelley, Will W. Mayhew, E. E. Abercrombie, Daniel Potter and A. C. Drinkwater as a com- mittee to appear before the Legislative Committee.
Voted, To add the Moderator of this meeting to the com- mittee.
Art. 25. Taken up. Voted, That a committee of five (5) be appointed to consider the matter relating to the revision of Town By-Laws and report at some adjournment of this meet- ing.

Voted, To choose three (3) Surveyors of Lumber. Messrs. Herbert W. Borden, Charles O. Miller and George H. Hol- brook were chosen and sworn.
Voted, To instruct the Selectmen to appoint one (1) Meas- urer of Leather, one (1) Poundkeeper, and three (3) Field Drivers.
The polls were declared closed at 1.10 o'clock p. m.
