ARTICLE 70. To see what action the Town will take regarding the abatement of assessments levied by the Board of Sewer Commissioners on property owned by religious organizations, and ordinarily ex- empted from taxation; and also to see if the Town will vote to appropriate money for the purpose of refund- ing such sums as many already have been paid to the Town because of such assessments, or take any action relative thereto.


ARTICLE 71. To see if the Town will vote to ap- point a committee to determine what areas are suni- able for a Town Forest and to report its recommenda- tions at the next Town Meeting.


You are directed to serve this Warrant by posting true and attested copies thereof in three public places in each Voting Precinct in said Town of Braintree, ten days at least before said first day of March, 1937, and by publishing the same once each week for two successive weeks in the Braintree News-Item and the Braintree Observer, the first publication to be at least eight days before said meeting.


Hereof fail not, and make due return of this War- rant with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, be- fore said meeting.

At the close of the polls when all votes had been canvassed, counted, recorded and ballots sealed ac- cording to law they were then forwarded to the Town Clerk's office where the figures were tabulated, proved and the result declared by the Board of Registrars.

PETITION FOR RECOUNT FOR THE REFERENDUM ON REPRESENTATIVE FORM OF GOVERNMENT


To the Registrars of Voters of the Town of Braintree :


We, the undersigned Voters of the Town of Brain- tree representing that we have reason to believe, and do believe, that the records, or copies of records, made by the Election Officers of said Town of the ballots cast at the Town Election on March 1, 1937, for the Referendum on Representative Form of Government are erroneous, in this respect, that "Yes" was credited with less, and "No" with more votes than were cast for each respectively, and we believe that a recount of

ballots cast in said Town Election will affect the result.


We therefor as that the ballots cast on the above named Referendum be recounted.

The Annual Town Meeting was called to order at 7:55 P. M. by Moderator William F. Rogers. The voters were checked on entering building - 843 present. Amplifiers were installed throughout the hall.


ARTICLE 1.


Voted : To elect seven Trustees of the School Fund for three years. Arthur L. Hale, John W. Harding, William H. Heath, Otis B. Oakman, George E. Sampson C. Frederick Tarbox and George A. Walker elected.


Voted: To elect three Measurers of Wood and Weighers of Hay: Willard P. Sheppard, Wilford F. Woodsum and R. Allen Gage elected.


Voted: To elect three Measurers of Lumber: Her- bert W. Borden, Shelley A. Neal and Charles O. Mil- ler elected.


ARTICLE 2.


Voted: That Article 2 be taken up in conjunction with other articles in the warrant.


ARTICLE 3.


Voted : That the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to bor- row money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1937, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in ac- cordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws. -42 in the affirmative and 1 in the negative.

Voted : That the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to bor- row money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1938 and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in ac- cordance with Section17, Chapter 44, General Laws. -Unanimous vote.


ARTICLE 5.

Voted: That the Town will hold its treasurer harmless on his bond for any loss which may arise from the faliure of any National Bank or Trust Com- pany in which the funds of the Town may be on de- posit, said Bank or Trust Company being designated by the Selectmen.

Voted: That the Town will hold its Collector harmless on his bond from any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank or Trust Com- pany in which the funds of the Town may be on de- posit, said Bank or Trust Company being designated by the Selectmen.

Be it resolved : That in the placing of policies for fire insurance of Town buildings and contents, the Se- lectmen be notified that it is the wish of the Town that the 1937 appropriation be applied to a plan of one year, two years, and three years policies for the pur- pose of equalizing the yearly amount to be raised for fire insurance in subsequent years.


Be it further resolved: That the Selectmen be re- quested to place as much fire insurance with Mutual Insurance Companies as will result in at least fifty per cent of the total fire insurance being so placed. So vot- ed 8:26.


ARTICLE 12.


Voted : To appropriate for the Norfolk County Hos- pital Assessment for maintenance and repairs, the sum of $7,008.46.

He also mentioned Mr. Wallace H. Pratt who pas- sed away last year and who served the Town of Brain- tree faithfully and well.

In case funds are no longer required for WPA, P. W. A., or other State or Federal aided projects, the balance may be expended for work in the several de- partments to relieve unemployment to the extent ap- proved by the Finance Committee.

ARTICLE 29.


Voted: That there be appropriated the sum of $84,500.00 for the maintenance and operation of the water supply system, laying and relaying of water mains, including $288.75 for the salaries of three Water Commissioners, the same to be taken from the surplus of the water revenues as shown on the books December 31 1936, and from the revenues of the de- partment for the year 1937.


ARTICLE 30.


Voted: That there be appropriated the sum of $288.75 for salaries of the Electric Light Commis- sioners, the same to be taken from the revenues of the Electric Light Department for the year 1937.


ARTICLE 31.


Voted: That there be included in the Tax Lavy for electricity used for Street Lighting the sum of $12,900.00 as appropriated under Article 13 of the Warrant for the 1937 Annual Town Meeting, and that said sum together with the income from sales of elec- tricity to private consumers, or for current supplied to Municipal buildings or for Municipal power, and from

sales of appliances and jobbing during the current fiscal year, be appropriated for the use of the Munici- i: pal Light Plant, the whole to be expended under the


direction and control of the Municipal Light Board. for repairs, renewals, new construction and operating expenses of the plant for the present fiscal year, as defined in Section 57 of Chapter 164 of the General Laws, and that, if said income shall exceed the ex- penses forthe fiscal year, such excess shall be trans- ferred to the construction fund of said plant and ap- propriated and used for such additions to the plant as may thereafter be authorized by the Municipal Light Board .- 10:02.


ARTICLE 32.


Voted: That the following sums of money be raised and appropriated for the purposes of the Sewer Department, to be expended by Board of Sewer Commissioners :


For Maintenance, from Tax Levy .. $ 10,000.00 For House Connections, from the Surplus Revenue Account 10,000.00


Voted: That the Town appropriate from the sur- plus and income of the Sewer Department the sum of $10,000.00 to cover the Town's share of materials, trucking and other necessary expenses in connection with W.P.A. activities or other special aid projects sponsored by the Sewer Department and approved by the Finance Committee in conjunction with State and Federal Government.
